Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Fantastic place. Great scuba diving here, but also good for snorkelers looking for a unique place to come and play. Highly recommended!

Enjoy the ocean and nature at its best. Never go alone. To have evidence for caution a tourist may research the number of drowning deaths at the Saipan Grotto that were either caused by misinformation, inexperience and or faulty scuba diving gear.

One of the top five dive spots in the world. If you are a diver and you are coming to Saipan then you definitely have to do this

We were very lucky that there were no crowds; CORVID-19 alert.
We pretty much had the whole place to ourselves. There was a lifeguard there who was nice and informative. I don’t think I’d come here to dive as I felt the snorkeling was just fine. I’d come here again but if it was crowded, it walk right back up and go elsewhere.

I was a little scared at first because of the current but my Dive Master eased my concerns. I had one of the best dives ever at The Grotto. Endless amounts of swim throughs and caves. Such a beautiful experience. Make sure your guide knows what they’re doing if you dive during the winter months. Always be safe and have a plan.

The Grotto is a hidden gem of a snorkel spot in Saipan. It's near the cluster of memorials including Banzai Cliff, Suicide Cliff and the Japanese and Korean Peace memorials. There was a dive/snorkel group there when I arrived so I watched them as they when in and out of the water at the Grotto. It's a steep climb up and down-- not a staircase made for flip flops so where close-toed shoes. It can be dangerous so going with a tour group seems like the safest way to thoroughly enjoy the Grotto.

Also- driving on Saipan is very easy. The island is small and the rules of the road are the same as in the US. I'm glad I rented a car to see all the sights so I could spend as much or as little time as I wanted.

I loved the Grotto! It’s easy to get to and the views are scenic on the way there. Once there, make sure you take time to go swimming. The ocean water is extremely buoyant so you can float atop easily. If you’d like safety gear, there are people that can gear you up for a fee. We just jumped in after a few tips from the local tour guides. Amazing water color!

Stairs and scuba gears don’t go well together. Especially if you are not physically well built. HOWEVER, the VIEW UNDER WATER IS AMAZING. MESMERISING. Therefore, just endure the walk ;) it’ll be worth it at the end. I promise :D

The grotto is an excellent place for diving! I also got my first two advanced open water dives there! The blue hole looks amazing, but the stairs were killers! There are a total of 160 steps, it doesn't sound much, but its A LOT with 20kg scuba gears on you, especially when the steps were not friendly either!

The place is perfect for divers. If you cannot dive, it's a nice experience anyway. Beware: the surface is almost always full of people, mostly Asians who cannot swim but go in anyway with a vest for having pictures taken by their tour guides. Don't go with children; they'll probably let you in anyway but it will be not pleasant.
