After spending time on the drier Kona side, we drove to Hilo. This park is lush with ferns as tall as trees. There are 450 stairs total if you do the whole loop. Or you can turn left at the first Y directly to the...More

Well worth the $1 per person admission fee. But be aware no cash, credit card only. So the line can be long as the transaction takes time. Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday are cruise ship days so people come in by the busload. The trail is...More

It worth seeing, but if you have difficulty with stairs it it hard to get to. There are over 300 stiars on the path to get to the waterfall. The path is a walk around to see the two waterfalls. It was nice to see...More

I highly recommend the drive to Akaka falls. We were staying in Kona so it was a drive over but lots to see in the area. The parking can get busy but don't worry the trail is plenty big enough for everyone. Make sure to...More

This is a must see for anyone visiting the big island of Hawaii! The hike is a circular paved path through the jungle like terrain but there is a railing the entire path. There are two options to choose from one with about 400 steps...More

This was a very beautiful circular trail that took you through lush vegetation and led to the primary attraction, the waterfall. Unfortunately, the mosquito population was out in full force also enjoying the day (and my blood). The savvy traveller wears bug spray! Well worth...More

My daughter wanted to hike a waterfall while visiting Hawaii. The review said this was a moderately difficult loop. It was paved, the whole way. You literally pay $1/person to walk in a circle. Unless you are severely out of shape, this is not difficult....More

Akaka Falls is lovely, picturesque, a glorious walk, eye candy, and "all that" one could expect. Be sure to walk at least the short walk so that you can partake of the wonder of sites and smells.

The easiest way to get around is to rent a car. The airport in Hilo has all the major car rental agencies. Akaka falls isn't too far from Hilo, maybe 10 miles or so. It really shouldn't take you more than 45 minutes to an... More
