I did this trip solo in two days and New Zealand is to be commended for developing this trail. I went from Opua to Horeke and was glad I did when I saw the 3.3 km downhill on the second day. It would have been...More

Great ride from Opua to Horeke all 84k of it. We ride the Opua to Kawakawa every week. Bikes can be hired locally. Plus transport is available to pick you up anywhere.

The trail is so beautiful... especially the Okaihau to Hareke section... just so incredibly stunning riding along the streams and through the forest. We rode from Kaikohe to Opua on the first day then Kaikohe to Horeke on the second. First day was mostly downhill,...More

We did this over 2 days , we started in Paihia and rode 5 km to the beginning of the trail up some big hills . The actual trail starts in Opua which is a lovely spot by the sea. We could have got a...More

We have had a great weekend cycling the twin coast cycle trail with some friends. We stayed in Paihia and Ray from Top Trails helped with transport. We used our own bikes and took the easier option of starting from Kaikohe each day as it...More

With a group of friends we tackled the 2 day cycle across to top of the North Island. We chose Opua to Horeke which proved to be the better way and not quite so hilly. You will need a certain fitness level and a good...More

We are not fit or overly active and haven't been on a bike in years, over weight and in our 50's. So don't let that put you off going on this trip. We had the best time, yes, it was challenging on the first day...More

Best way to do this ride is Opua to Horeke, unless you want a 1.5 km steep incline up a ravine! Cycled 45 kms from Opua to Kaikohe first day which is a gradual climb. Kaikohe to Horeke on the 2nd day, about 40 kms...More

We did both of these legs and took us about 4 hours for each. We are probably reasonably fit but weren’t pushing it.

Yes it would be ok but you would have to be careful on the downhill which is a series of switchbacks. The track is wide enough. The only other area to watch is you need to use the road before the boardwalk into Horeke
