Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We have been to Makana countless times and the quality of their chocolate is consistently excellent. The staff are always courteous and helpful, a trainee was working in the cafe over the weekend and even she was doing a great job.
Price wise it isn’t the cheapest but you really do get what you pay for and it is worth the premium price.

Right next door to their chocolate shop they have a cafe with an excellent selection of meals, cakes and other food items plus ice cream. The cafe like the chocolate shop is clean and beautifully appointed. Again with pleasant staff and the ability to view the kitchen behind a glass window, this provides excellence in delivery with beautifully presented food. The cafe has indoor and outdoor seating. It’s often said you can judge the cleanliness of a restaurant by its toilets, again you can’t fault them from the moment you enter their front door. Went there twice during our trip North, and on both occasions they were busy which really speaks for it self.

We stopped in after visiting the Saturday market across the street while on holiday. It was fun watching them make the macadamia caramel corn and sampling the treats. The manager was so friendly and seemed genuinely interested in our family; she is a gem.
The macadamia butter toffee crunch is addictively good. We bought a gift basket (a gift we gave ourselves) that included this, and the toffee crunch didn’t last 24 hours; we were all sneaking pieces of it. So so good!
It would be cool if they expanded to the point of having more of a tour option or some type of interactive chocolate making experience,

Over all disappointing to be honest. The cafe side of the factory is now closed up. We viewed chocolates bring made through the glass windows from the shop, this was interesting. The chocolates and candies looked yum but the prices were very high..may be less packaging would lower the price a bit.

The whole family was looking forward to the delicious looking treats in the pictures provided online.
When we arrived there were no treats, there was no cafe, and no yummy ice cream as per photos.
We got nothing but a boring chocolate gift shop and some disappointed children.
If the cafe has closed and there are no treats anymore then you should remove the photos or make it clear somewhere online.

The welcome of free samples is very nice and they were decent portions as well. Amazingly they were my favourites which i ended up buying.
You can watch them make the chocolate through the glass it's great.
Beautiful choices of chocolate and brittles etc
The cafe was also nice especially on. Rainy day. Great time to check this place out.
I recommend the macadamia butter toffee crunch 😍👌🏽

We don’t consider ourselves big chocolate eaters but these were delicious! Purchased popcorn and a macadamia butter toffee crunch - perfection! The toffee didn’t get stuck between our teeth and still managed crunch!
The box came with 3 large slices and we knew - knew - we would share this over the next 3 days and failed. It was so divine we ate the whole lot in one sitting! Holy cow! I think we might drive back today!

Stopped by on our way to the Bay of Islands and was attracted by the large signage outside this building. Sampled a few chocolates on offer and bought quite a bit of the available variety.
Must confess the PACKING was very fancy!!!
But the prices were EXHORBITANT!!!! especially for the quantity provided.
Overall--7/10

I visited makana chocolates this weekend to celebrate my 13 year old birthday. We first went and watched them make the chocolates and tasted the free sample. The chocolate was lovely. Then we went to cafe and had a variety of treats ice creams, hot chocolates and shared a larva cake. It was all delicious pretty pricey but nice as a treat.

Our hot fudge sundae took 20minutes, it was half melted by the time it came and the cream tasted old. When it finally came and we asked for a second spoon it never arrived so we had to fend for ourselves after 5 minutes. Also the description says ‘decorations’, there were no decorations! The table was dirty and the lady sighed when we asked for napkins. Overall very disappointing.
