Experience the real magic and spirituality of local Maori while paddling with us on one of our 50 ft War Canoes (Waka). Our visitor experience provides an exclusive look into our ancient Ngapuhi tribal customs, rituals and traditions. Through storytelling we share the ancient knowledge and histories of our living cultural landscapes during a 2 hr voyage of the Waitangi River and tidal estuaries. In 2011 National Geographic Traveller recognised our visitor experience as being in the world's top 50 tours of a lifetime. Our Qualmark-endorsed activity is a perfect combination of eco tourism and interactive Maori culture. We are the Ngapuhi tribe of the North, New Zealand's largest Maori tribe, and we invite you to join us on a once-in-a-lifetime voyage

We book this through the cruise ship - this was the only tour in NZ done this way as most tours on the cruise ships listing are over priced but this seemed within the operator range. We had a great time too, the team at...More

We took this tour whilst on the MS Oosterdam mid February 2015. The family running this tour were totally genuine and very informative on their Maori culture. After Maori prayers and a short lesson on how to paddle, the group got into 2 Waka's -...More

Thinking we may have gotten in over our heads as we are in our 60's we decided to go ahead and book the canoe rowing attraction. We needn't have worried as it was a fantastic experience. Maori warriors greeted us with pride and gave us...More

Can't say enough great things about this tour. It is everything and more that is advertised and worth every cent. The tour is lengthy but not too much so and on the way back from the falls they use a motor which was a relief...More

One of the best things we did on our two week holiday, and we're still talking about it. There were only 6 visitors on our waka (our group, plus another couple), so it was a bit daunting to think we'd be having to paddle so...More

Our "journey" was on Saturday, Nov 15 (2014) and was planned as a 2 hour paddle in a Maori waka [war] canoe ... well a traditional canoe made from hollowed, shaped logs. This was to be about 2 hours in length and to go in...More
