Who wold have guessed, only this part of Australia boasts both the oldest rocks on he planet AND the oldest living life form, he stromatolites. Take a short stroll down to Lake Thetis and marvel at these ancient life forms. The area has been expertly...More

Ancient life forms might not be everyones cup of tea. If it is for you it is interesting. However there is not much to see so set tour expectations low.

Sadly the day was overcast, well that's what I'm blaming, but the pictures I've seen are much better than the real thing..... however it's not much of a detour if you are in Cervantes.

These stromatolites are fascinating to see. There are more of them further up the coast near Denham. Have a look at both sites as the stromatolites are not quite the same.

You need some imagination to picture how old and how alive the stromatolites are. But once you do, you will really appreciate what you see as u walk from the red-soil car park to the edge of the lake. Enjoyable short diversion to or from...More

Interesting walk, about 1.5km around the lake. This is our second visit and last time there wasn’t as much water so we saw the stromatolites a little better. If driving through worth the walk to stretch your legs

We had never heard of stromatolites previously so interesting to have a look. The road into the area was more suitable for 4WD due to potholes but the walkway around the lake was well set up and safe.

It’s basically how life began. Go and check it out. A very nice walk around the lake and a chance to see history in the making - literally. An easy walking track - great for kids and families. Worth a stop and to check out.

The lake is walking distance from the free public car park. A strong wooden footpath from the public car park leads the way to the lake with information plaques about the lake and stromatolites. Sunrise at the Lake is awesome.
