Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Visited this quiet beach after visiting the statue of Christ the Redeemer. Access to this beach is by a short cable car ride. Sea is very clear and the beach is very rocky. Nice place to chill and watch the world go by, with a beer from the handily placed beach restaurant

A lovely place to spend a sunny day. Good for swimming (if not too windy) or diving. Restaurant/café, changing rooms, toilettes, shower, sunbeds (€2,50). Cabel car down to the beach (€3 return). Not anymore possible to take the car all the way down, the road has unfortunaly been closed for cars half way.

What a fabulous find! This is a beautiful, secluded rocky beach that's perfect for snorkelling. Snorkelling/dive equipment can be hired at the Mero Diving Centre at the beach. Go down in the cable car and enjoy the beautiful beach, lovely cafe and fabulous snorkelling! Lots of colourful fish to see.

We came here just to see the unusual beach in a lovely secluded setting. In April the water was surprisingly warm. However, no matter how much we enjoyed the scenery, it was really difficult to get comfortable on larger than pebble size beach. Really uncomfortable to walk around and ultimately confined to the concrete area of the restaurant. If only it had proper sand.

This is such a beautiful place. It’s special from start to finish. You get there in a cable car or you can walk the steep path. It’s a rocky beach- bonus- no Sandy bits!! But it’s the water- it’s pristine and teaming with fish. Bring a snorkel and look around- it is amazing.

Beautiful place

We went here thrice on our 6 Day stay in Madeira.

it’s a small bay very beautiful with natural outcrop of rocks and a natural underwater reserve. There is the huge statue of Christ like the one in Rio de Janerio on the top .

The best bits are the cable car, the restaurant at the bottom and the most impressive one is the Dive centre/ school there. The dive school is run by Carlos a very experienced diver where myself and my family went diving along with them. They provide a guided underwater diving which is at a very reasonable price compared to EU states and saw groupers / turtles / stingray as a highlight .I never dived in a underwater area with volcanic rocks before and this is absolutely fascinating.
The quality of gear their had was very good as well.
Garajau- we will visit again !
We also did a fair bit of snorkelling here. The beaches pebbles and rocks as there is no sound at all however garage now reserve LOL has been a memories of a beautiful place
