About
A journey into the world of porcelain… Undergoing renovation works between 2014 and 2016 the Vista Alegre museum intends to show the factory’s history, the aesthetic evolution of porcelain production and its significance in Portuguese society of the 19th and 20th centuries, through one of the most complete museum collections of that kind. Besides the renovated exhibition rooms you may visit, as part of the Museum circuit, the Chapel honouring Nossa Senhora da Penha de França and the Oficina de Pintura Manual [hand painting workshop] of the Fábrica da Vista Alegre, where you will be able to see the delicate ceramic painting.

A very interesting place. If you´ve booked a room in the hotel nearby, they give you free tickets for the museum. The museum depicts the two-centuries history of Vista Alegre as a major pottery manufacturer, its fine products, its evolution in techniques and design, and a more general vision of that industry. Some pieces on display look really beautiful. It also reflects the way of living and the esthetics of the upper classes in the past. There´s also a shop where you can buy a wide range of items, plus a chapel and another shop, an outlet across the courtyard. It´s an interesting place although I guess that this type of museums, dedicated to a certain person or a particular activity, as opposed to a more general facility, it can be very exciting for people who are into it or have some previous knowledge, but not so much for children or a more general public. It deserves a visit.

Wonderful for a family trip. The museum has activities for the children, where parents can discover history with their kids. Lots of portugal´s history, and the company´s family history. the parks around the museam are beautiful. Have lunch at the Montebelo Hotel on the site. Great service, wonderful food. Stores on the site to explore and check out some deals. Take a trip to the beaches in Aveiro, nearby, in the afternoon

The Vista Alegre Museum is an unmissable visit for anyone visiting the Aveiro area. It is, more specifically, in Ílhavo, about 6km from Aveiro.

It is a Museum with different features; the Museum itself, with many of the most iconic pieces of Vista Alegre, but also with its History over time…, and what a History! It is also in the Museum that you can see real Artists painting the pieces in situ; what precision!!…

Then there is the Chapel; There is also a store dedicated to pieces by Bordalo Pinheiro, and also the VA Educational Center, where you can, by appointment, take a painting workshop.

You have all the reasons and more to make this wonderful visit!

Famous porcelain industry. The shops disappointed. Both outlet and main shop. Stores around the world offer very nice products from Vista Alegre, but you cannot say that by visiting the production site. Visit to the industry was not allowed.

We loved going into the no-longer-operational industrial kilns! And, the up-close visit to the handpainting area of the factory was amazing...What artists they are!

If you want to know about a Portuguese Superbrand, you must visit this old factory: it has a museum, a church, a theater just inside the factory yard. This factory deserves really a visit. Come in!...

I have been here a few times and I must say the staff is more pleasant than they have been before. Great porcelain pieces (and also outlet pieces) but the museum is worth it all. Interesting history and a chance to see the artisans at work. Food/drink pricey but one expects that.
