We visited this place September 29th. Free parking is available in front of the entrance. The museum displays the various vessels used for fishing in this region. There is also maritime art and a tank full of cod.
Unfortunately everything is in Portuguese.

Very intersting museum, however does not cater to english speaking folks at all, so was hard to really gain much knowledge about the fishing culture, except from the photo's. We bought a booklet with some English explanations but was just an overview of each section of the museum. Don't bother, but jyst 1 euro, so... The cod aquarium is multilayerd and stunning!

The Ilhavo Maritime Museum is a worthy representative of this fishing village, and, in particular, of the tradition linked to cod fishing that is so present in the History of this land, and its people.
Reading, and seeing what is being explained and shown to us, through posters, or interactive films, and even through the display of original pieces (including real boats...) one realizes how hard that fisherman's life was...
The most appealing part is, of course, the aquarium where the cods are!
It should be noted that in addition to this Museum, there is also a Museum Ship, anchored in the Port of Aveiro, a visit to which is unmissable!

Very interesting and curious museum about cod fishing.
It shows very well how hard this life was and how these men were heroes.
The artifacts, the boats, etc. all tell the story.
Unfortunately the cod aquarium was undergoing maintenance and we couldn't see it.
We will have to go back!

Mandatory visit. In addition to the history of cod, it is possible to see different types of boats, an admirable collection of shells, ending at the unmissable cod aquarium. Adults €6, children €3.
I recommend a visit to both adults and children.

Very nice museum. We learned so much and understood very well the history of the portuguese people relation with codfish. The codfish aquarium is simple but great. One can learn also about history on boats and fishing boats from Aveiro and Portugal. I recommend visiting.

Good historical setting on Portuguese codfish fishing, nice boat replics and a curious water tank with living codfish.
Has a real fishing trawler as an extension of the museum

This museum is very informative and interesting. The portuguese codfish fishing is the main subject of the museum, with boats, fishing stuff, navigation instruments, nautic maps, etc. The new codfish aquarium is a "must". Very nice! It is not a big museum, so it is possble to visit it in a short time. It deserves a visit.

Extremely well done, you can understand very well all the history of the Portuguese relation with codfish. Learned a lot and kids enjoy the visit by learning and playing. The Faina Maior room is really well done, kids love to enter the boat and seeing the different divisions of the boat. The aquarium is simple but really nice. And also a lot of history on boats from Aveiro and fishing boats from Portugal. Overall, very good surprise!

Really nice museum we had the visit as part of a ticket for several attractions. I am not at all in to maritime history but this really was worth it. Amazing art and old boats . You don’t need a real interest in maritime to enjoy.
