Have been intending to visit this place for a long time, but it is usually only open on a Sunday afternoon, which made it difficult for us. However we got there eventually and it was well worth it. The first thing that struck me was that everything was spotless, amazing for a place that restores locomotives. If you buy the steam train ticket you get unlimited travel on the steam train, the diesel car or the narrow gauge railway. The journey is to the next town (Eeklo) and back. We went around the workshop looking at the train collection and there is a film to watch if you wish. There is a bar/cafe on the platform too. If you have an interest in trains this is definitely for you. …

Decided to go to the Steam train festival, celebrating mostly steam locomotives for both narrow and standard gauge. The steam train left from Eeklo station, and one could buy tickets once on the train. The schedule also is arranged so that there is an easy connection to and from Ghent in Eeklo on the national railway network. There were steam locomotives for standard gauge, and quite a few for the narrow gauge trains. Once in Maldegem one could take a trip on a narrow gauge railway line, which stops somewhere in the fields, and then returns in a largely open wagons. Further are there several trains to see on the site. The former station has been nicely renovated and is now a restaurant.…

We had a great day at their Gala. Steam and Diesel were running on both the standard gauge to Eeklo and the narrow gauge. Fortunately the weather was dry and warm. There were food stalls, including beer, coffee, ice cream, burgers etc and trade stands selling books and the like. As an extra, there were horse drawn carriages running outside the station.…

Nice activity. You can take a train trip (on some days) to a nearby city (Eeklo). It also has a nice restaurant and pub. The terrace (when nice weather) is outside and has a view of the trains. Very well placed in Maldegem with enough parking space.

I vi8sited this railway with my wife and my Mother and we all enjoyed our trip on the steam train. The staff and/or volunteers were all welcoming and very happy to help. The train trip is about 1 hour to Eeklo and back. You pass a good variety of scenery along the way. There is also a narrow gauge steam railway and an excellent museum building to explore. I look forward to returning as soon as possible.…
