About
RdV Vineyards is nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, in the historic town of Delaplane. Thomas Jefferson, a native of Virginia and founding father of our nation, was also a "man of the soil," an avid viticulturist who dreamed of creating a "great American wine based on a French model." Today, Jefferson's vision is a reality at RdV. Bordeaux grapes, planted on a granite hillside, producing wines that marry the elegance of Bordeaux with the bold spirit of California. RdV Vineyards is open to the public for Tours & Tastings at 11am, 1pm and 3pm, Thursday through Sunday. To reserve a Tour & Tasting with us, you may do so through our website or by contacting us at the winery. RdV wines are available for purchase at the winery, and through our online store with the option to pick up or ship. If you have any further questions about visiting us or our Ambassador Membership Program, please feel free to contact us. We hope that you enjoy our wines!

Someone bought us tasting visit for the vineyard. The staff was very welcoming and we had a very nice tour of the property. Afterwards we had a cheese and mead tray with several wine tastings. Everything was very good. They did not rush us through. We would recommend this experience to anyone that enjoys a nice wine. It was a nice long drive out to the country too.

Wonderful wine tasting. Nice tour of a lovely facility. Despite very hot temperatures outside it was a cool and comfortable tasting. Nice touch with Dom Perignon to start, good pairing of meats and cheeses, and two of the most impressive reds in Virginia.

Been going to this winery for years as a member. It is beyond extraordinary in every way. From the people to the wine it’s just amazing. If you are looking for an inexpensive experience, however, this is not for you. It was recently sold and I am hoping that all of the things that made it special remain. We shall see.

Tastings consists of two, one ounce pours of their two red blends at the cost of $50 per person. You also get a small plate of fine meat, cheese, and pate. The wines are first rate but certainly overpriced at $75 and $95 per bottle. A very unique building with a lot of thought going into the design. The vines are still quite young with the first harvest in 2009.

My husband and I had a wonderful experience at RDV Winery on an August Saturday. The tour was incredibly informative and showed us the entire process from vine to bottle. The tasting was four of their wines as well as a charcuterie board with tasty snacks. The whole experience was so great that we were excited to purchase a bottle to enjoy with the view.
Except - as nonmembers - we weren’t able to enjoy a bottle on the property. The membership (six bottles/$750) is what we would have to pay to enjoy a bottle on the property. Of course, because there’s a waitlist, we still wouldn’t have been able to spend more time there even if we had paid the membership fee.
I understand this is a smaller boutique winery, but it’s hard to justify a trip from DC to VA wine country (over an hour) for simply a tasting. I’d love to be able to enjoy this great wine on the property. Unfortunately, I’m en route back to DC.

We went to RDV based on the reviews we read online and an article that we read in Food and Wine and in general were impressed with the facility and the wines themselves. The tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable and winery itself is immaculate. I understand that some people are put off by the tour/tasting fee, and I think it's a little high, but it's not that offensive, and they are good with the tastings after if you want a second try of something. What I do find a bit offensive is that if you join the wine club after they don't waive the tasting fee (even for 1 person if there are 2 of you). Come on. Not only do I think waiving the fee is fairly standard, but I spoke with a number of older and very well traveled wine tasting colleagues, and they were all surprised as well. This isn't even a "come on guys, you're in Virginia" knock. I'd say the same thing in more well known wine regions.

While this tour/tasting is pricey, I appreciate that they are pouring some fantastic wines in a more intimate setting. The charcuterie board is also quite impressive with a few meat offerings, garlic sausage, foie gras, duck rillette, grain mustard, bread, salt/pepper and two types of cheeses.
The wine pour is a fair sample that lets you try it more than once, so that you can fully appreciate the wine. We tried a 2014, 2015, and 2016 Rendezvous and a Lost Mountain. The Lost Mountain is only available if you join the wine club, so that was rather disappointing. Still, I appreciated the opportunity to taste it. I also liked the "on your own" tasting rather than having someone constantly talk at me.
No doubt, these are some of the best wines that you will find in Virginia. However, there are some really fantastic wines that I can buy in this price range from a top-notch distributor/retailer. Still, we walked away with 2 bottles and will probably be back. Sage, the dog, was an extra treat!

A visit to RdV is always a treat. Having lived in VA for over 20 years, we were getting used to frumpy local vineyards that make sweet plonk, rather than serious wine. Then along came RdV. Situated on a south-facing slope, the vineyard gets ample sun, and the land drains well. Couple that with careful attention to the winemaking (including a consultant from the Bordeaux trade), and the result is impressive.
RdV makes two top-line wines, Lost Mountain and Rendezvous. Both are Bordeaux-style blends. The Rendezvous is more merlot-based, and tasted like a dead ringer for a classified St. Emilion (l'Angelus comes to mind). Lost Mountain is closer to a left-bank Medoc. Like most Bordeaux chateaux, they make a second wine, Friends & Family, with the younger vines and anything that gets culled from the top crus.
A tasting and tour is quite unique. We literally had the place to ourselves. The operation is rather small, so the tour doesn't take long. Then you get the tasting, with some food, and are left to enjoy things privately.
RdV also has a number of summer events, which attract a good crowd. Unfortunately for us, it always seems to be 90+ degrees and full sun, so we only occasionally go to those. But we buy our case allotment every year, and while the wine is not cheap, it is worth every penny.

This vineyard is one of the best. Upon arriving, you are greeted by friendly staff that offers you a glass of very good champagne(and I am not a champagne drinker).
Don't be apprehensive about the $50 a person price for the tasting. The price includes a very detailed and informative tour of the whole building, the wine production, and the history behind the owner and land. After the tour, you do a wine tasting of the two wines(both reds) that they produce. The tasting includes two generous pours of their wines and different foods to pair them with. During the tasting the staff is friendly and offered us another glass of our favorite.
Although this is by far the most expensive VA winery and would not be an every weekend winery for most, it is definitely a must to do at least once. RDV offers an excellent experience with a friendly knowledgeable staff and excellent wines!

We had a party of 12 here for valentines day. The grounds here are so beautiful, the scenery breathtaking. Upon entering the gorgeous building we were immediately greeted by someone who took our coats, then brought some amazing champagne for all of us. The building is an architectural marvel of concrete, wood and various stone and iron work. On rod the more interesting tasting rooms I have been in. The tour was fascinating and I learned many new facts about growing grapes and making wine. The tasting was so well done, with a full service included. We were seated, waited on through the tasting. The food paired with the two wines we tasted was excellent. Then we were offered and additional glass of our favorite after we were done tasting. The pours were generous. Well worth the fifty dollars!
