About
The GMAC is an epic real-world action adventure quest. Uncover the legend of a secret world hiding in plain sight among Vermont's mystical Green Mountains while solving a labyrinth of mysterious clues and mind-bending puzzles. You will explore ancient mountain valleys, reveal historical tales, and experience true adventures. Each person you encounter, every sign you see, might be the key to unlocking the next step of your journey. This is a real challenge based in real history complete with real world outcomes if you succeed. There is no guarantee you will solve it. My friend and I have participated in the Green Mountain Adventure Challenge for the past six years, and we LOVE it! The puzzles are difficult and the hikes are interesting. There's always a bit of local history woven into the game as well.

There is definitely a learning curve, so if it's your first time your best bet is to go on a weekend when other teams will be participating. Most people are more than willing to help others out with a nudge in the right direction.

This is unlike any other experience that I've encountered. It can be difficult and there is no guarantee you'll complete it. If you get frustrated easily, this is not the game for you.

The history, the mystery, the great outdoors--we experience it all every time we come to Vermont for the Green Mountain Adventure Challenge! It's always a true getaway for us--we become totally immersed in the game--we have to in order to finish the challenge! Be prepared to be truly challenged in many ways. Our best tip: try to stay at the West Dover Inn, where the Challenge originates, and where the food is delicious, the atmosphere is delightful, and the staff is friendly and helpful.

What a fun little gem in the heart of the Green Mountains! I've been coming up to VT for years from MA, and I only just heard about the Green Mountain Adventure Challenge this last winter. My friend and I came up for a girl's weekend and had a great time. It was the perfect mix of physical activity and challenging our brains. When we got stuck, we worked with other guests. The puzzles were not easy. Can't wait to come back next summer!

A True Adventure Challenge and a Great Experience. This year's challenge checked off all the boxes- perfect balance of challenging puzzles and physical activity. This year it was very important to read the clues! If it is your first year- do not give up!!!!

My husband and I have been coming to Dover for the Challenge with and without friends and with and without kids since 2013, and for good reason. This challenge is well-thought, well-executed, and super fun. Though it has changed a bit over the years (and certainly this year because of COVID), it is both mentally and physically rewarding. The area is charming and the nature is breathtaking. We'll keep coming back year after year as long as the GMAC runs.

We’ve completed the GMAC the last 7 years with another couple, and have enjoyed the Vermont nature, challenging clues, time with friends, and of course dinner/drinks at the 1846 tavern. 2020 was no exception! With minor adjustments for Covid19 (face masks when inside or around other people, activities more local to the town of Dover, and lots of hand sanitizer!), this years adventure was another fun weekend with the right balance of adventure and time relaxing. For those that have never tried the challenge, I highly recommend going with another couple, or overall team of 4, and attending on the weekend when other teams are around town too. For repeat adventurers, this years hikes were not as strenuous as some previous years, assuming you don’t misread any clues and do some extra hikes...

This is my second year participating in the Dover challenge! Last year my team didn’t quite have what it takes to make it through to the end, so this year I brought more friends to play! We had a blast solving the puzzles and exploring our way through Dover - so excited to have completed the challenge! Can’t wait for the next one!

Just finished our 8th year of the Green Mountain Adventure Challenge and it was awesome! So happy to have this little slice of normalcy in this crazy year. This year’s challenge was a little different to keep everyone safe, outdoors and socially distanced, but it was as fun as ever. Fun puzzles, nice hikes and conversations with fellow adventurers. Thank you for making this happen this year - can’t wait for next year!

This was our 5th year doing the Green mountain adventure challenge. We weren’t really sure what to expect this year with everything going on. It did not disappoint! We had a blast. The weather was beautiful and Dover, VT is a fantastic place. The staff at the West Dover Inn is amazing and fun. We feel so welcome every year. If you’re looking for a different type of weekend away that is fun and refreshing, this is the perfect thing! The challenge will make you think, frustrate you at times and give you a great sense of accomplishment when you finally finish!

My wife and I did the Adventure Challenge a few years back and loved it, so we were so excited to do it again this year for my wife's birthday. This year, though, it was really disappointing. The first clue just kept us inside and on our cell phones for hours trying to figure it out, and we ended up just stopping so that we could go outside and go for a hike or a walk and enjoy the outdoors on some really nice days. Also, when we got to our hotel, we were given a notebook from last year's challenge, which had some stickers (clues) in it that really threw us off. In addition, there were no t-shirts or water bottles from this year's challenge. Not getting up-to-date gear was really not a big deal, but it added to the bummer of spending 150 dollars on the challenge and not enjoying ourselves. Again, we loved the challenge we did a few years ago, but this one felt like a really waste of money, and we don't plan on doing the challenge again because of it.
