Visiting any or all of these churches is an uplifting experience by itself. But to see these churches come to life (besides the regular masses), each of these churches, as well as others in the area, holds an annual picnic. You can enjoy home cooking, dance to polka music, play bingo, bid at the auction (anything from a quilt to a cow), and pick up something from the country store. Your kids can find games, or perhaps a sand pile, to enjoy themselves. You can meet with interesting people, and when it's time to unwind, there's always the beautiful sanctuaries and neighboring cemeteries, nestled in the peaceful countryside. Check with the local chamber or visitors bureau for dates.

If you like beautiful Catholic Churches, history & off the beaten path experience, this is perfect. We toured 6 churches with my mom, husband & 2 teen girls. We stayed 2 nights at a nearby VRBO in Columbus, and drove to The Schulenburg Chamber Commerce for the tour. We toured 6 Churches , but could have been happy with 4. We drove from Dallas for a 2 night getaway. Refreshing short trip.

Excellent tour. So amazing. The tour was a joy and we loved the couples we were paired with. Gigi was an awesome tour guide.

These churches are truly breathtaking. Most people drive right by the Schulenburg exit on I-10 on their way to somewhere else. Next time, call the Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce and arrange to spend a few hours viewing at least 3 of the 6 churches available with a tour guide. We had Sheila as our guide for whom these churches are places where she grew up attending so her stories, along with the history, made them so meaningful. Treat yourself to a meal at Tillie's (across the street from the chamber) before getting back on the road and you'll have a wonderful memory to treasure.

A lovely day out driving in the rolling countryside and some very beautiful churches. The cost is reasonable, $12 per person and a tip for the guide which for our group was $5 each. Not sure if that is standard or based on group size but we had 14 people.
