Stopped by on our travels to FINALLY buy some wool to take home with us. There was a small group of about 8 people there so me and my friend waited until she was done talking. My friend asked her a question that she in turn gets asked a lot. (She has alpacas) and the elderly lady really snapped her up. As a matter of fact my friend said something about the sheep on the road (as in she thought they were cute) and the lady snapped her up again and said "Well YOU are in their pasture" Then there was another comment made from the previous conversation and I had to walk out. So I want to thank the owner for saving us about $400.00 bucks as we did not buy ANY wool from her. My plan is to go back to the Isle of Skye in a couple of years and I am sure she won't miss our purchases. However, very disturbing behavior. They will not have us to worry about with our little bit of money.

I remember you… Rude and entitled. Such a shame that this is the calibre of visitor we get to our island.
Health and happiness to you 😊

We popped into this excellent shop on our tour of Scotland. It is jampacked with various high quality wools, yarns, gifts and knitted products.
The owner was delightful. She explained many things about the types of sheep and wools available.
I told her that I had been looking everywhere for a mans knitted Scottish Bonnet and that the bonnets I had found were all for females
She responded by pulling out, what I believe to be, her first attempt at knitting one in the traditional style, in her out Herbidean wool and with the beautiful, spiral knitted pattern on the top. She was disappointed because it had turned out to large and offered to gift it to me if I wanted it. I offered to pay but she insisted that I keep it to experiment with and to see if I might shrink it to size.
I had never met the lady before and she could presumably have unwound it and reknitted it but no - she insisted that I took it.
I found this very generous and exceptional in the current climate where customer service is not necessarily high on most shops agenda.

This was one of the highlights of my trip to Scotland! Yasmin and her husband are living the dream, raising animals and producing beautiful wool goods, and I appreciated so much that they share it with tourists. In May there were a couple adorable 9-day old lambs! The highland cows were out in the pasture and are gentle enough to pet.

I am a tour guide with Discover Scotland Tours, and I stop here every single time I’m on an Isle of Skye tour. My favourite place to go on the job. Yasmin, Alexandria and Trevor have all taken tours when I’ve stopped by and are all incredible, allowing everyone to feed their sheep and highland cattle, and then showing/explaining how they shear their sheep with plenty more fantastic stories too. If you visit the Isle of Skye make sure you fit in a stop here!

I was fortunate to be staying at a B&B just down the road from Edinbane when I saw a sign on the A850, YARN! I had to follow the sign and see what was there! What I found was truly wonderful.
The Hebridean Isles Trading Company breeds Hebridean & Black Cheviot sheep, the sheep just outside the little shop. They have the fleece cleaned and spun into yarn on the Isle, so it is an all Skye product! They carry their own yarn, currently a wonderful black with hairs of gray in aran weight. I bought enough for a sweater! The yarn is very wooly, warm, and traditional (not soft).
Yasmin also knits, "designs, and produces traditionally hand-knitted Fisherman's Ganseys and the Crofters range." I really enjoyed learning all about the Kapitein's Gansey from the captain himself, the meaning behind the patterns, and the stories of how the Ganseys were used for communication. Yasmin uses the space as a workshop, so you can see her process as she knits traditional Ganseys. Living tradition!
Other items for sale in the shop include Jamieson and Smith yarn and patterns, tweed fabric woven on the Isle, fair isle knit hats and handwarmers, flasks, and art prints of their sheep. Bespoke kilts available through one of their partners.
Island at the Edge is in the Art Skye brochure available at the Portree information center.
Highly Recommended for fiber artists, yarn lovers, sheep snugglers, and self-sufficient crofters!
Directions:
Traveling west on the A850 from Portree towards Dunvegan Castle.
When you see the Kildonan street turnoff, you are getting close. Just past the Skye Camping and Caravanning Club watch for a small sign that says YARN. It will lead you to their little shed shop!
If you get to the town of Edinbane, you've gone too far.

I was on a Timberbush tour with Graham and he brought us to this farm, where we could see the sheep the wool comes from and learn about their care and see how it's processed right there and spun. Yasmin is amazing and I was pleased to get yarn from her for my future weavings! Thank you!

This was a special stop on the tour of the Highlands. The women who run it are very informative about the many varieties of sheep and their young Highland cows. There was a woman who was spinning in their little shop which would make a nice photograph if it weren’t for the teeshirt she was wearing. There are a limited number of products and yarns to buy. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Just popped in as we were staying locally. Very informative talk with the crafter and picked up some very useful advice on knitting styles. If you are a knitter then well worth a visit.

We had seen the small sign advertising wool whilst driving near Greshornish, Isle of Skye.
When we drove down into the shop area we were greeted by Yasmin the owner. a wonderful friendly person.
The wool she sells comes from her own sheep, which are kept on sight.
A really worthwhile place to visit not just for special wool but hand knitted garments.

Went to see about yarn, ended up talking with the owner. She is wealth of knowledge and imparts it with humour and humility. Thoroughly enjoyed the visit, and if she is successful it will be a great place to stay.
