Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Layland Museum, located in the former Carnegie Library, is a nice local history museum, with attractive and informative displays on early days in Johnson County. Mr. Layland gave his personal and eclectic collection of historical objects to the museum, and they run from dinosaur tracks to Native American clothing with beautiful beadwork. Other donations include Civil War artifacts and guns and one of the only remaining complete sets of Confederate soldier's clothing. Lots to look at and enjoy and friendly staff to answer questions. The historic building is also fascinating. Nice stop for local and Texas history fans.

Free, donations accepted. Housed in a beautiful old Carnegie Library, this was a very interesting and unexpected find. History starts with pre history and Laylend's involvement and moves nicely through town history. Households, tools, firearms and local individual stories. Could do better explaining railroad history that was vital to town, but there is a Railroad Museum just a couple blocks away. Visit the upstairs auditorium for a look into what was important socially at the time library was built. Very congenial volunteer staff.

Although this museum is difficult to find if you're not local, it is a very nice one set inside a rare Carnegie Library. Lots of historical markers around the building. Inside, there are two stories. The top floor houses a theatre of sorts and a few displays. Downstairs is the main museum and small gift shop. If you head toward the back, past the visitor desk, you actually go through time backwards starting with WW2. Lots of neat antiques in well-labeled displays. They even had a game for kids to play and an old-fashioned typewriter to try out. My only complaint was lack of parking or a sign to explain where to park.

Great entertainment as well as educational. It covers the history of Johnson county very well. I visited with my grand child and he was very fascinated with everything in the museum.
