This is the tomb of the 11th President, James K. Polk and it is located on the northwest grounds of the Tennessee State Capitol. President Polk and his wife are buried here. He was also the Governor of Tennessee on these very grounds. He and...More

We went to Polk's Tomb after touring the Capitol. A nice slice of history in downtown Nashville. Not much to see, though.

The memorial is now situated on the grounds of the Tennessee State Capitol in Nashville. Polk has traveled much since his death - quite a moving story. Initially he was buried in what is now Nashville City Cemetery due to his infectious cholera death. He...More

It is quite picturesque on the grounds of the State Capitol. It does not take long to view this but worth the few seconds to go see it. It is very nice walking around this area.

Interesting thing to see on your own if you visit the state capitol. It is not part of the guided tour, but is worth doing. It's quick - 5 minutes - but interesting to see.

No mystery visitors leave behind three roses or a half-filled bottle of cognac as they do for Edgar's birthday in Baltimore, Maryland, but James Polk once was the President of our America. It needs a bit of maintenance, but still a nice stop on the...More

I recommend everyone stop here when in the area. The tour was great, we got the audio headsets and can say it was well worth it. I was there a couple of weeks before it was vandalized and can't imagine why anyone would do that....More

We were seeing lots of sights in Nashville. My husband loves to find the off-beat things that not everyone goes to. You can walk up the steps on the side of the capitol building and you will find the copy of the Liberty Bell, a...More

It was interesting and serene to walk around the capital's grounds in the evening. The capital sits on a high hill in Nashville overlooking the city. In a quiet area, is President Polk's unassuming tomb.

I was able to walk past this after visiting the capitol building since it's on the same site. It was neat being able to see the actual tomb where one of our president's is buried. This would be an easy stop after touring the capitol...More

Nice to see historic site next to the statehouse. Apparently, his tomb may move for a fourth time to a new location.
