About
Built in 1953 and one of the last paddle steamers in Britain, you can walk around the ship and enjoy the views over Loch Lomond. Our engines are now 'in steam' for the first time in 39 years, come onboard and watch the engines & paddles move (not enough for us to sail just yet)!. We are now taking wedding & event bookings as we have just spent £1.1million on renovations so if you are looking for something a little different to show your family & friends enquire now about prices. We are now open Wednesday's to Sunday's from 11am - 5pm until the end of October. Admission is £3 per person with kids under 12 getting on for free. Plenty of kids activities to keep them busy! Our first 'In Steam' event of 2020 will be on Saturday 29th & Sunday 30th August. Admission is £5 per person (kids under 12 free). All funds go back into keeping the ship running.
Duration: 1-2 hours

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We visited this Paddle Steamer which is static at the moment with very friendly helpful staff on board being very informative on the history of the former Loch Lomond Paddle Steamer with some good informative video's about the history. The aim in the future is to restore it to running order so it'll be able to offer trips around the loch again which would be great to see. On board snacks are served.

Visited today to see engines turning and we weren't disappointed. Re-furb coming along very nicely and such a change from last year. Tea, cakes, coffee and light lunches available on board. Covid aware with one way system in place and sanitation stations throughout. Nice line up of Classic Cars too! Lovely day out.

We wandered round Lomond shores whilst staying at Cameron house lodges and stopped by the ship for a quick coffee and to shelter from the hideous rain. The ship is in various stages of renovation, but with access on deck for a look around. It's also free, which is most definitely a bonus. If you like historical or nautical memorabilia you'll no doubt fall in love with it.
The cafe is basic, but good for a brew stop. They have a limited menu, but did have a few different cakes and biscuits on offer. We just had hot drinks. Other tables around us were having soup and sandwiches, which looked ok. For an unusual cafe venue, with great views of the loch, not a bad choice.
My kids never believe people actually read my reviews, so if this was helpful please give me your vote. It's always nice to prove them wrong occasionally

I recently purchased a Prosseco Afternoon Tea for 2 for a treat for my Mum we turned up only to be told that it had moved to the Kilted Sirlie. We didnt recieve a phone call or anything to make us aware of this and if i had know i would have tried to rebook as the whole point was to have it on the boat. We then rushed over and was seated got a pot of tea and no cups and we sat for 20mins waiting for cups or to get someone to give us some. We eventually got someone and had to get a fresh pot of tea as it had sat for so long we got cups and then no teaspoons or cutlery so this was another wait. We finally recieved our sandwiches and tea about near 2ish and the tea was booked for 1pm, once we finished we still had no Prosseco and waited to the point we were so fed up we just left! I like taking my Mum for an afternoon tea to different places every few months and this has been the worst experience we didnt enjoy it and were very annoyed not to mention i paid for Prosseco which i didnt recieve!! We will never be back i wouldnt waste my money or time like that again!! I have contacted them so hopefully if anyone reads this and is planning on going you will get a better service than we did or at least a little bit of decency to appreciate you as a paying customer

The Maid of the Loch was the last paddle steamer built in the UK in 1953. It is anchored at the moment but there is a good café on the boat that serves teas and snacks. The view of the loch from the boat is excellent and is a real tourist attraction.

The two scores I’ve given are for the soup and the friendliness of the lady working there. I was disgusted to notice the gentleman working there, was eating behind the counter and licking his fingers, then I was disgusted to see him wiping his hands with the tea towel, that he then went on to wipe the dishes with. The dishes were just washed with the tap running, he wasn’t washing them with soapy water and I’m convinced the water wasn’t even HOT, as he was able to tolerate the water over his hands, which he certainly wouldn’t have been able to do, had the water temperature been at the correct temperature to kill all germs etc. I felt quite sick when I then caught him licking his fingers yet again, after dipping bread in the soup and then he picked cutlery up from the trays and hadn’t washed his hands. Such a shame as the lady’s hygiene was spot on!!!

The Maid of the Loch is an old steamer which has taken visitors up and down Loch Lomand for years. It is now moored in clear sight from the Loch shopping development and attraction. It's a lovely walk round, it is free to look round and have a lunch and home made cakes. They are aiming to get her sea worthy and all donations are welcome. Friendly volunteers from the heritage trust are knowledgable on the history. Functio rooms also available. It's something different and part of our heritage so visit if you can.

When will the steamer be seaworthy again, i have sailed on the Waverley on a few occasions and thoroughly enjoyed it

There is still a lot of work to be done with the old girl and the people doing the restoration are volunteers who depend on donations as far as I am led to believe so sadly it may be quite some time before she sets sail again.

My wife and I along with our son and daughter were probably some of the last people to sail on The "Maid". That was the Summer of 1981. It was a very enjoyable day where we went right to the top of the Loch. We emigrated to Australia in October that year. When we returned in 1987 I am afraid the "Maid" was beginning to look her age. I would like to compliment all the people who have worked so hard to get her to the condition that she is now in. We have "dined" on the Maid" a few times and were reasonably impressed. However on one visit to the boat, I was in discussion with one of the hard working volunteers. I expressed my concern, that the costs for a family day out on the Loch might be prohibitive and that they would have to be aware of that. I hope that this is not the case, but I wish them all the very best for the future. Good luck
