A friend and I decided to visit the Gin Bar in Rothesay on Saturday night ( 30th Oct). We both live on the island and are always keen to support local businesses. However, we arrived at the bar, and instead of a nice welcome , we were immediately asked 'have you booked a table'? (we hadn't). A 'hello, how are you tonight,' would have been a nicer welcome perhaps! The bar was completely empty ! We sat down under cover (a marquee), and none of the heaters were on. When they were put on it was directed to a couple that arrived after ourselves. (I think friends of the waitress).

The drinks are quite expensive and we ordered cocktails. Unfortunately, they just looked like regular drinks and were just dull tasting. (£15 for 2 drinks) The staff seemed to prefer to stay inside the main building for the warmth. My friend had not been to the bar before and she loves gin, but I doubt she'll ever return. Such a shame.

Many thanks for your review noting some issues that you found - I am very sorry you had a disappointing visit to the Gin Garden. We always pride ourselves on our customer service, so I will be passing on your comments to the team to remind them to consider the way we come across on initial introductions. I am also sorry that you weren't kept too warm during your visit. We have been working hard to upgrade our heating systems within the Garden now that it's getting into the colder months and I am pleased to say that we now have new overhead heaters installed and free blankets available for customers to use. I apologise again that your visit was a negative one, and we'd love the opportunity to make it up to you and your guest and welcome you both back to the Gin Garden for a round of drinks on us. If you'd like to give the Gin Garden another try, just get in touch with me at iona@isleofbutegin.com so I can get you booked in. Warm regards, Iona Distillery Manager

We were Holidaying in Wemyss Bay, and were searching for some local Gins to sample.
Came across these and booked an afternoon in the Gin Garden.
The Gins were served perfectly, with perfectly matched garnishes by a very friendly and welcoming young Lady.
We tried 4 of the Gins, and couldn't resist buying a couple of bottles.
I highly recommend the Oyster Gin

Had a table booked here for 8pm on Saturday night. We were seated and left to decide on our drink. 15 minutes later no one had came to take our order. We weren’t sure if it was table service or not. Just then a gent came out to the table next to us that still had over half a drink left and asked them if they would like to order another. They said they are passed their allocated time slot but would order another if they could stay longer. We then sat for a further 5 minutes before our order was taken. Drink were nice and a nice area but maybe just take orders of people sitting without a drink first xxx

Opened only a few weeks, we stumbled on this mostly by accident. A large newly constructed event space with a beautifully equipped kitchen and a lovely long bar. Seating is at big tables and benches, low stage in one corner. Up and over doors can open out onto a landscaped courtyard with plenty of seating. It was a VERY wet Sunday lunchtime and we had just had coffee in the town..but couldn't resist trying a pint of IPA from the Loch Fine brewery, we also sampled the newly produced gin, choosing from a choice of 5 or so the "oyster gin" Young staff who were all so positive about the place and what they were doing, really lifted our day! The bottle of Oyster gin is going down well at home.........a drive on the Monday took us to the Loch Fine Brewery.....but that is another review!

We stumbled (not literally) across the distillery while exploring Rothesay. Thought it would be a good place to source a nice gift for my Dads birthday, realised they had a bar at the back in their “gin garden” so we ventured in dog in tow, really nice set up, covered with heaters. The team on duty were really great. Good knowledge and passion about their product. There was beer and cider on offer as well as “perfect serve” Bute gins and cocktails. We only stayed for one on this occasion and I had their Oaked gin which was excellent and my wife thoroughly enjoyed her Aperol spritz. I would have loved to tried a few more of their gins and hopefully will next time we visit Rothesay or if the bars in Glasgow start stocking (they should!).
Picked up a bottle of their Oyster gin on the teams recommendation for my Dad. All in all a great visit.

Really disappointed by the service from Rambling Recipes pop up tonight. This is the second time that Bute yard has advertised that a pop up was open all day till 9pm only to find when we arrived at 6.30 it had temporarily stopped serving food. On this occasion we were told that the kitchen would be open again by 7.30. Our order was taken and we were told to come back at this time to pay and our food would follow. Went back at this time and still no food service. After a few trips back and forward we were told at 8.15 it was unlikely that any food would be served! The reason being that a member of staff ha been threatened. While I said I had sympathy for the staff member I noticed that some food was being prepared and sent out. I questioned this to be told it was a previous group booking. If the person in charge had been up front at an earlier time we would at least had a chance to make alternative arrangements.

Can I also say that Farrah’s farm fresh ice cream was absolutely delicious and the lady serving was lovely.

A really brilliant afternoon outside the new distillery on the Isle of Bute not Glasgow as the map here on Trip Advisor.

We tried three different gins all were very good and a very full measure. The outside seating was great and we had a super time.

We bought a bottle or two to take away with us.

Staff were all super friendly and the bar had only been open for 3 days.

Keep up the progress.

We visited here today and the gentleman who advised us on the gin was most helpful. We settled on a duo pack of Land and Sea. Very excited to try the oyster gin that we bought. Although the rest wasn’t open, the service we received was incredibly good.

Having a walk around Rothesay and spotted the distillery. Tried the oyster and gorse gins which were both delicious! All covid safe with lovely helpful, friendly staff. A nice way to pass an hour or so of your holiday 🙂

Booked this as part of a Waverley excursion. Got a call just before we docked to say our high tea had just arrived. An awesome selection of sandwiches and cakes that's more than enough for 2 people. Gin cocktails were great. Fresh ingredients and really refreshing on a hot day. Location is great with a good choice of outdoor seating whether you're after sun or shade. Well worth a visit if you're heading to Bute.
