We hiked in October and didn't get to see the puffins but did see other seabirds. We were able to see Muckle Flugga, Britain's most northerly point and got photos of the lighthouse. Amazing cliffs on this walk - 3-4 hrs.

Good walking shoes and binoculars are to be recommended for this visit. Spectacular views in a unique environment with a wealth of flora and birds galore.

Tel 01957 71166 local Garage to check on Public transport. There is a daily bus at 7.55am from Lerwick, gets to Unst about 11am. Walk over Hermaness takes a few hours to do it justice. There is a bus back to Lerwick at 4pm... More

get the overland to unst, public transport poor but you will be safe hitching on the island but really you need to hire a car xx
