While it's a little bit of a drive from Lerwick, the end results are far worth the effort...not to mention, the drive itself is beautiful. Great spot to take in the expansive views of the North Sea and the Atlantic. Great spot for birding too,...More

Coffee was great, but the view from the Stevenson cafe is stupendous! It's a bit of a hike up from the car park, but well worth it. Very good service from a small but knowledgeable team - Gary and his colleague knew A LOT about the...More

Sumburgh Head is at the end of the Southern tip of Shetland. However, it will only take you 30 minutes or so to get there by car from Lerwick- and it is well worth the journey. The site is owned by the RSPB. In the...More

This is somewhere best seen from May to August, when the birds are nesting. There will be so much to see and photograph. The nesting bids have made this a RSPB Bird reserve and is worth travelling up to Shetland for this alone! The Lighthouse...More

On a blustery day, we took a drive all the way to the lighthouse. Parking is free, and it is a hike up to the lighthouse. Fairly strep path; not recommended for people who have limited mobility. However, the walk is worth it. Absolutely magnificent...More

Seriously important radar work was done here in the Second World War, and this was a really interesting piece of history to discover. There is plenty of information about the seabirds and the lighthouse there, too.

September is not the best time to visit the head as most of the birds have gone but we knew this. The lighthouse tour is very interesting many things to look at and learn. The coffee shop serves cake and has an awesome view.

We visited the lighthouse primarily to see the puffins that nest in the cliff below the light. The view from lighthouse is spectacular even if the puffins are not around. There is a lighthouse museum there but we decided it was not worth the cost...More

I suppose it is only 1/4 mile uphill. Possibly, if you contact the Sumburgh Head Lighthouse, they may allow you to drive up, off-load your passenger and return to the parking area.
