The locks themselves were fun. The centre was mostly a shop along with a cafe with only a very small couple of rooms about the canal itself. Compared to other visitor centers in Scotland, it was a little disappointing.

We stopped here for some coffee and cake - the coffee was very good and the cake was great. Excellent service and the staff were smiling as my toddler stomped back and forth in the cafe and gift shop.

Park at the gas station just north of the canal as you're coming into Fort Augustus, it will be obvious as there is a huge parking lot there. Then walk two minutes south on the road and you are at the canal. Don't try to... More
