Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Visited with my 2 kids today, and have to say it was absolutely brilliant.
The volunteers do a great job, with plenty of sanitiser available and masks if you don't have one.
They both took time to have a chat with me and talk about the castle, the wildlife and the local area.
The castle itself is a fantastic find. Really interesting and lots of nice information and displays. The view from the top is fantastic as well, with metal boards showing what all the sites are.
Would recommend. It was a highlight of my holiday.

Stunningly beautiful location. Sunsets superb and occasionally northern lights can be seen. Castle opens summer season and harbour and pier located here. Big car park but no toilets or refreshments so bring a picnic.

Lovely little place for relaxing walk on the beach and visiting some historic spots. Castle is small but good enough to take kids attention. Parking available free of charge too. Will come again on a nice sunny day

I can’t thank the staff enough, they were very friendly and eager to share their knowledge of the caste and its history. It’s a beautiful little castle set in stunning location particularly when the suns out. Lots of free leaflets and information located inside. Entry was free.

This is one of my favourite places to go to get away from it all.
The castle is very interesting and great views from rooftop.
Lovely walks along the coast too and great place for stargazing and sometimes the nothern lights can be seen here as there is no light pollution here!
Great little hidden gem!

Portencross Castle is a small castle on the coast very close to West Kilbride. Entry is free and the views are simply breathtaking from there. The Friends of Portencross Castle have done a marvellous job of repairing and restoring the structure.I would definitely recommend a visit here and suggest you leave a donation to support them in continuing their good work.

Moved to Scotland 13 years ago and this quickly became a favourite place to visit. No matter what the weather is doing the view is amazing. When the wind is gusting the waves crash and it is as if you are miles from anywhere. Great picnic spot.

From Portencross it is said that the bodies of the Kings of Scotland lay in wait to be taken over to the Isle of Iona. From its vantage point on the River Clyde estuary this can be seen to be realistic. Inside the fortress the winding stairs take you to the top and you get an impressive view over to the Isle Of Aarron and Colonsay it is worth visiting for this reason. The history of the fortress is nicely laid out with the help and support of attendants to guide you around this restored monument. The carpark is free with picnic benches that give excellent views across the Clyde Esturary with its passing ships , boats and diving Gannets. Also from here are pleasant walks along the sea front toward Largs which give you nice views towards Millport with the flora and fauna on both sides of the track.

Hi there, head south west towards Law Brae, turn right onto Law Brae, turn right onto Cubrieshaw St, turn left onto St Brides Road. At roundabout take second exit onto Portencross Road and carry on straight, there is a car park on the left with picnic tables. Sorry for not getting back to you sooner.
