Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This nice little harbour is always crowded because of Game of Thrones. Difficult to park the car and so much traffic going up/downhill... I would suggest you to leave in the village and take the road down (around 30 min). The harbour is nice but always crowded: try to visit it early or late in the evening, when tours are gone.

We visited this harbour while on a 3 day tour of Northern Ireland with Rabbies in pre-COVID May 2019. Sorry for the delayed review.
Ballintoy Harbour was the Game of Thrones site for Lordsport, the port of Pyke. The rocky shallow bay outside the harbour is where the Iron Islanders lay Lord Greyjoy to rest by sinking his body into the bay.
Our visit was very short, the guide explained the GoT reference and then left us to wander around the harbour, breakwater and bay. However, it is quite lovely on a clear sunny day and if you are interested in GoT you will recognize the location.

Came for a wee visit as I'd heard the harbour was lovely. I'd also heard it was used in Game of Thrones, but actually forgot about that when we got there. It was a dull day but the waves were spectacular, crashing over the rocks. Theres a small cave to explore and a little cafe and toilet facilities. We didnt stay long as the weather was turning but glad we went for a look. I'm sure in summer its gorgeous. The road down is steep and windy, with a lot of tourists walking on it, so be careful driving.

This was the highlight of our short stay in Northern Ireland.
Firstly please exercise extreme caution on the way down /up as it is very narrow.....unfortunately a " game of thrones" tour bus hit our car as we ascended!
The pictures I have taken say it all really....ample parking and toilets too and a little food shop which opens at 11 am.
The beach is very pretty and dog friendly....they were everywhere.
Much of the Game of thrones was shot here and there are information boards up explaining a little about this.
A beautiful spot worthy of a full day out.

What a beautiful place, so picturesque. If you are a fan of Game of a Thrones you will recognise it as one of the filming locations. A beautiful grey seal was playing ing the harbour and the sea was fabulous. Great location for photography.

We tried to visit this place mid morning but after a drive down a road that quite clearly says it isn’t suitable for camper vans we arrived to find the car park full and cars driving round looking for spaces. There were some camper vans parked there and when we left we came across a huge camper van trying to get down the road and causing chaos as the road was not wide enough for a camper van to pass a car, we all had to back up!
Unfortunately while it looked beautiful I would say if you don’t arrive very early then don’t bother.

Visited this small harbour whilst staying in Ballintoy. Filming location for Game of Thrones and although small it was a lovely harbour. There is a very nice looking cafe which I didn't use but seemed busy when we were there. It can get very busy and parking can become a problem and the road down is narrow and steep.

The wind was blowing at 45 knots on the day we visited, which whipped up the sea to provide an interesting vista along the shoreline. The waves came crashing down over the rocks and you had to dodge the spray. Even the water in the sheltered harbour was ebbing in and out quickly.
This really is a beautiful place to visit and spent time looking out to sea.

Fun, narrow windy road down - watched the camper vans & minibuses causing jams! Harbour so pretty and with info boards about GoT filming (if you're into that!) + loads of fans hanging about excitedly pointing out "scenes". Not far to explore, but nice rocks to clamber over and a huge old lime kiln. Great café with outside & inside seating doing lunches, coffees & cakes. Stay & enjoy an hour or so.

Lovely walk by caves we sat along the grass on a beautiful hot sunny day just loving the water and the scenery. Harbour was busy but it was lovely to see people out and about making the most of the beautiful weather . Tip best go later in the day as the car park is small you wont get parked .

Hi.
We will be staying in Ballycastle and intend driving to Ballintoy where we will walk to giants causeway then stay overnight...next day we will walk from causeway to portstewart where i will take bus back to Ballintoy for small car.
The question is...is there anywhere in or near Ballintoy I can park overnight (actually a day and a half)...i guess its not possible to oark overnight actually at the harbour ?

There are free places to park on the street in Ballintoy village. You can walk down to the harbour (approx 20 mins) from there.

Hi, Can you tell me how long the average time spent here is without taking a formal tour?
Written 30 November 2016
No tour taken - not needed if you do any research.
Spend as long - or as little - a time as you want. Walking and looking and relaxing are difficult to quantify.
I can imagine some spending 5 minutes, taking photo and leaving. Others could spend 5 hours walking along the point, down the bay and having a coffee / meal at the cafe just taking it all in.
Up to your schedule.
