We like it

We have been coming here every year for last 5 years, now with kids 9 and 6. 9.50 for parking is ok if you come early and stay for the day, which is what we recommend as the beach changes throughout the day as the tide comes and goes. Do remember it is private land so the owner can charge what he thinks he has to. I agree with some reviews that the toilet needs a refurb. However, for us, we go on plenty of beach holidays, Bantham is one of the best! The food trucks just make it a all rounder. Up to you if 9.50 stops you but it shouldn’t. The road in an out of Bantham can be tricky. Last time my car broke down and I was stuck in a jam for 3hrs. Still it won’t stop us as for us it’s beautiful!!! Tip - go very early or mid day to avoid traffic. Also when leaving take the exit out right at the pub….not many people go that way. The road is a little narrower but you might be lucky and have it to yourself. Also, do walk to the dog beach side as the river has a strong current - wear a life jacket if you need and just float all the way out to sea. At low tide the water is only knee deep!!! Enjoy :) (yes there are snakes so be careful Opposite the surf school!!

Beautiful Beach
Aug 2021 • Family
Beautiful beach!
Crystal clear water & perfect sand!
A lot of reviews here are complaining of the price of the car park, £9.50 to park yes I agree is a lot but not so bad if you are staying all day. I for sure would happily pay that to have my car parked in a safe place, clean accessible toilets, rubbish free beaches? But know one seems to want to pay for that? Maybe the car park price will keep the rubbish dropping scroungers away.
The beach has life guards there all day keeping it safe for everyone. When the tide goes out it leaves lovely little pools of water in the sand which are great for young children.
There is a place to hire kayaks, paddle boards, wetsuits. A few food & drink vans with a little picnic area.
There is a doggy beach around the corner. It’s has great walks & views.
I would definitely recommend & will be visiting again.

Too expensive to park and dogs on main beach despite no dogs rule.
Aug 2021 • Family
I have been visiting this beach 3/4 times a year for the last 30 years. We have a caravan up the lane. The last 2 years the traffic on the lane has made day to day activities virtually impossible with people not able to drive on the local roads. Maybe more signage required. The carpark price of £9.50 is absolutely ridiculous considering you’re parking in a field and as for the no dogs rule. This is not monitored, no-one checks that there aren’t dogs running freely across the main beach when it’s clearly marked no dogs past this point all the way around to the estuary. I picked up 3 piles of dog poo from inside the rocks and has to wrestle my sons football from a dogs mouth twice yesterday. I avoid the estuary for this very reason so maybe the main beach needs to be monitored more and dog owners shown the correct place to be?!

Beautiful beach

After reading recent reviews of Bantham Beach I was a bit apprehensive about going .We last went to this beach back in 2013 and I’m
Pleased to say that it was just as we remembered it .Very large beach with different pockets of areas for all range of ages from surfing in the sea to Rock pools and long walks across the sand .Yes I agree the car parking charges are way too
high but , the extra facilities for food and drink are an added bonus .We spent 2 days on this beach and would have gone more if we had stayed longer in Devon

Overpriced and overcrowded... sadly not what it used to be!
Aug 2021 • Family
My family and I have been visiting this beach since the 80's. We visited today and were charged £9.50 to park (even though we arrived at 1pm), which is, frankly, daylight robbery! In my opinion, enjoyment of this beach has been spoiled - too many people, too expensive, food trucks and a bar truck in the car park... we did not have to visit the toilet facilities, but from what I understand the extra car parking fees definitely haven't gone towards modernising those... not to mention the ridiculous traffic down to and up from the beach, many of which are drivers inexperienced in local roads and seem completely hapless and, frankly, dangerous trying to pass other cars... one of my favourite childhood beaches which I will now sadly choose to avoid with my own children.

disappointed with dog friendly area
Jul 2021
This beach has been deemed 'dog friendly'- but i would seriously dispute this. As a group of 5 (including an elderly grandparent) ready for a beach day (therefore, with a lot of bags), we were very angry about having a long hike over dunes and having to down steep steps in order to reach the small area where the dog is allowed.
This area is at least a 10 min walk from the actual sea when the tide is out.
Of course, the dog wouldn't be able to be taken to the life-guarded section of the sea (instead limited to a fast-flowing estuary that is unswimable) so make sure to go with a group of people (if, for example, a single parent wanted to take a child to swim in the sea but had a dog, they would not be able to).

Car park greed
Jul 2021
This is a nice beach but the car park is currently charging £9:50 to park in their field. I have never written a negative review before but I am utterly disgusted by the greed of Bantham Estate. I am disappointed that they feel this is a reasonable price and would encourage them to reflect on whether, if a family without much disposable money wanted to take their children to a beach, this is a fair price for parking in a field. It has put me off going again.
