Overview

Guernsey Museum at Candie is a small, award-winning museum set in beautiful public gardens in St. Peter Port. We have a permanent exhibition of the early history of Guernsey and artworks from the museum collection. Our three other galleries house varied, non-permanent exhibits and displays (please see our website or Facebook page for up-to-date information). Our gift shop is well stocked with local gifts and souvenirs, locally produced art, cards, toys and sweeties. We also sell a large selection of local books both fiction and non-fiction. We have a café on site serving meals, snacks and drinks and a dedicated space for young visitors called the Discovery Room.

After walking to many of the dolmens on the island we found the archaeological items excavated from them in this museum, including pots and bones, with helpful texts describing everything. We also enjoyed the audio clips of the local Guernsey dialect. The museum also had...More

A very good museum for such a small place. Unsurprisingly, it has quite an eclectic range of topics and displays - but that means most people will at least find something of interest. The local art in the gallery included some fine paintings. Would love...More

This small museum is a convenient and pleasant walk from the harbour and is well worth a visit. There is currently (May '18) a comprehensive display about the First World War which we did not consider terribly relevant specifically to Guernsey but other material relating...More

Thank you for your comments. Our temporary galleries can house anything from the Wildlife Photographer of the Year to Edwardian Guernsey, from the paintings of Victor Hugo to Lego so it can be just about anything and is not always specific to Guernsey. We do...More

The museum costs £6.50 per person to enter. This seems high for a small museum but perhaps keeps the numbers down so you have the opportunity to see all the exhibits. I found the exhibition about how WW1 casualty management very interesting and informative and...More

I've always enjoyed their cafe overlooking the fantastic Candie gardens. The museum always has new exhibits and stuff to look at. A single entry price is expensive. Cheaper to get an annual pass that allows entry into most of the museums.More

The museum is well worth a visit. When we were there the top of the bill for us was the room full of poetry and prose surrounding the German occupation. Very moving indeed.

Thank you for your comments. We are so glad you enjoyed our "Reflections on Occupation" exhibit organised by the Guernsey Arts Commission. It has proved very popular with locals and visitors and has been a key part of this year's Liberation celebrations.
