No Kids allowed. I rang up to make a reservation for 5. 1 child. Told no kids allowed at any time. Absolute joke.

We had afternoon tea outside, it was really lovely. The food is super, the staff are very personable and the setting is beautiful. I would highly recommend it.

A stunning setting. House is so beautiful inside with lovely sofas and comfortable chairs in an old-world atmosphere. Staff were very attentive . We had afternoon tea and everything was excellent. Lovely teas to choose from and there was just too much food. We had to bring some home. The scones were so soft and fresh. Lovely walks in the grounds afterwards. A real treat.…

Right so, we visited the Duck restaurant almost a year apart and had a mirrored experience on both occasions. Aug 2018: Arrived on a gloriously sunny afternoon. Sat outside. Staff young, polite but very inexperienced. There appears to be no communication regarding orders between the wait staff. We ordered with one but then we'd have to chase up our order with someone else, then someone else would bring it. The service is ridiculously slow for such a high end establishment and really lets it down. We were there over two hours and still hadn't had dessert!. One nice more senior waiter noticed this & apologised saying he would give us our desserts on the house which we appreciated. The food is genuinely lovely & creative, just a pity you have to wait so long to get it. Aug 2019 (yesterday) Arrived on a gloriously sunny afternoon having rang ahead to book a table outside for us and our three children. Staff young, polite and still massively inexperienced. Once again no communication between staff for example: my husband ordered a g&t with no cucumber, after approx 20mins he asked another waiter would they mind following up on his order, they then came back with his g&t WITH cucumber🙄, does nobody write orders down or even communicate an order to another staff member? We were over an hour waiting on our starters, my eldest son had only ordered a main so by the time we got our main over two hours after our arrival he was absolutely starving!😕 The sun literally went down & we were sitting in the garden in the dark and almost the last ones left before we got our desserts. The same waiter from last year apologised and offered our desserts on the house which we appreciated. A lady (possibly the manager/owner) came around with blankets it was now quite cold as it was night time, despite having arrived on a sunny evening. She asked how long we had been there & apologised for the delay citing it being so busy as the reason for our long wait between courses and that maybe we should have booked... we then informed her that we had actually booked our table prior to our arrival. She was understanding & she too offered our desserts on the house and a complimentary glass of wine, all of which we appreciated. It's such a shame that they can't seem to get on top of their time management as this property is beautiful. Dining outside in view of the pretty garden & watching the peacocks wonder around is a delight, especially on a sunny summer afternoon. The food (when it finally arrives) is tasty, creative & presented attractively. Would we return?.... Yes, because I so want to see them get it right. My two star rating reflects the unacceptably slow service. I sincerely hope they can massively improve upon their time management issues and make this restaurant 5 star worthy. …
