Pros
Nice hotel in a good location overlooking a harbour and beach.
Very friendly helpful staff in hotel and bar/restaurant
Rooms were fine and really super clean. Everything was gleaming one of the cleanest we've visited in a long time.
The hotel had good COVID precautions in place.
Food in restaurant was of a good standard not a very exciting menu but very tasty. We had great fish and chips and a lovely pizza .
Nice pool in the leisure centre.
Cons
Great difficulty in booking I emailed ,left it a day or so but no reply, tried to ring several times no reply, when I did get through the lady was busy on another call and said she'd ring back but 3 hours later she still hadn't. Got through 2nd time and was put on hold while receptionist dealt with another customer.
Leisure centre pool doesn't open until 9.00 am and the latest time they could take us for breakfast was 9.00. We always like to have a swim before breakfast and in all the other hotels we stayed in on our staycation the pools opened at 8.00 am or earlier
No wifi in the upstairs bedrooms which is really unacceptable in this day and age.
Rooms are not soundproof can hear next door's guests talking and moving around Fortunately our neighbours were not noisy and didn't stay up late.

To some extent this is a lovely place. I had a great view over the harbour. My room was twin bedded and I paid quite a substantial single room. supplement. There was just one lift and then there were three steps down to the room. The bathroom consisted of a toilet, a sink and a shower. The shower head was not detachable. There was no bath mat and there were no grab rails. For my purposes it was therefore unusable. There was no wifi but there was a TV, albeit on the small side. There was tea/coffee making facilities. Most nights I could hear people on the benches outside the bar until quite late but otherwise it wa reasonable quiet. The food was generally pretty good altough choices were limited. One night though they served gammon and pineapple. The gammon was over-cooked and in some cases totally burnt. The mashed potatoe it was served on was merely warm rather than hot. The staff were generally very amenable but service was sometimes rather slow. The location is perfect. I just wish the facilities had been better.

Just returned from a weekend break at Pier Head, had a very enjoyable weekend, views from Restaurant and our bedroom were fantastic, but were spoiled by dirty windows in both areas, covered in finger prints & fly marks, housekeeping take note!
Bedrooms were otherwise clean and comfortable, a large room, but in bathroom nowhere to set toiletries everything had to sat on floor.
The dinner menu was fine, if limited in choice (we ate in restaurant both nights) and we noticed that most people ate in bar (more choice but not the same view!)
Entertainment very good a live band both nights, but started very late at 11.00pm.
Also used Spa and very good too and reasonably priced.
Overall the hotel could do with a little spruce up, a wee bit dated in places.
This was our second visit to Pier Head, we do like the atmosphere, entertainment and the lovely location and do hope to be back again sometime.

I visited this hotel last weekend and while the staff were accommodating and very pleasant, the hotel was anything but. The standards of cleanliness and attention to detail were so bad. I was given a twin room initially. The headboard was broken on the bed, the lampshade was battered and dirty and the door to the bathroom was covered in dirty fingerprints. I asked to be moved. The next room wasn’t much better. I had to clean the remote control as it was filthy. Bathroom door also covered in dirty fingerprints. The tv was not working. I visited the pool and spa. The changing rooms are not clean, the pool area is not clean. This hotel is situated in a wonderful location and it has wonderful potential but it needs a deep clean, new paint, new beds and more staff to offer a good housekeeping service. Basically it needs a complete overhaul. Very disappointing

Spent a night in the Pier Head and it did not disappoint. Wonderful welcome and service extended, with a special mention to Hazel. Food was of good quality and the view from main restaurant unsurpassed.
Highly recommended for all types of stays.

was at the pier head for a treatment, have stayed many times in the past. i had a facial and pedicure, the therapist spent more time out of the room, although she seemed experienced it was the worst facial and pedicure I've had in a very long time, it was a complete waste of money.

This hotel has a great location and does a great breakfast unfortunately the hotel needs some decorating the rooms are clean but quite small some have lovely harbour views but very little room to sit and enjoy them.
The hotel lounge desperately needs refurbishing.

i have stayed here a few times and have normally had an ok time-however on NYE 2017 i had the worst ever hotel experience in my life. we went for a bar snack when we arrived at 1500 and thought well this isnt bad. we kept asking several times for the NYE Gala Dinner Menu-which we never got. so we decided to eat at the bar. big mistake. it was the same menu as the bar snack!!! so i asked for steak-no steak, asked for a burger and so did my wife-only one burger. the waitress said do you want me to cut it in half for you? what a joke. i said no ill have the sea bass-no sea bass. so my wife had the pork and i got a burger that was so small it was gone in 2 bites (and the waitress wanted my wife and i to share???) the other members of our party had pork-4 wee bits of pork. we were starving.
now for the bar service-shocking. 5 bar staff but no floor staff. when we first arrived there was 4 customers at the bar and it still took 15mins for me to get a drink.
now for the worst part. i know for a fact that they are serving bad spirits. they are serving cheap versions of popular brands. a pic was taken of me at 0126 and i was fine. at 0150 the top half of my body was on fire and i had broke out in a pink rash. after a complaint to the duty manager (with a jumped up bar maid butting in and calling me a liar in the middle of it) i went to bed. upon check out we again told the staff what the story was but all we got was a shrug of the shoulders.
oh and FYI Pier Head-if you wish to employ Security Staff please ensure they are properly trained and registered and that they also carry and display their security credentials at all times while working. And dont worry-this has all been reported to the proper authorities.

Enjoyed our stay at the hotel, staff friendly and helpful, we stayed half board, the breakfast was plentiful and good choices available. The dinner was ok, but as we were with a large party there did seem to be a lengthy wait for the food to be served. Our room was spotlessly clean and although we didn't have a scenic view, it was fine. Our friends had a terrace room and the views were spectacular.
