Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Showing the victorians' confidence that adding a building can make the landscape even better. The whole drive round the Mullaghmore peninsula is a series of panoramas. Classiebawn is a spectacular viewpoint; entirely free and easy to access by car.

It is worth stopping for a moment along the coastal road to admire the beautiful landscape. In the background you can see the castle of Lord Mountbatten, the last viceroy of the Indies who was killed nearby by the IRA in 1979. It is private property and therefore cannot be accessed, but the view is really worth it.

While traveling the coastal route from Sligo to Glencolumbkille, this castle appeared seemingly out of nowhere. It's a stunning sight, with Benbulbin as a backdrop and the ocean as a sideyard. I later found out that it's the former home of Lord Mountbatten, who was a mentor to Prince Charles and related to Prince Philip, and was killed when his boat was blown up by Northern Ireland terrorists. There's no public access, but the castle is a scenic vision with a bit of tragic history.

Should not be on this website as it is 1 km from any public access and is a private house that can not be visited. It is an attractive distant feature of the local landscape and was the home of Lord Mountbatten.

You can see Classiebawn Castle for miles as it's situated in one of the most beautiful locations you can find. Once the home of The Earl Mountbatten of Burma this historic castle is not open to the public but it graces the landscape near beautiful and picturesque Mullaghmore 15 miles or thereabouts from Sligo

We first noticed this castle whilst driving from NI down to Sligo on our first trip to Ireland in Sept 2015. We had photographed this from the highway on our last trip and wanted to get some better pictures. It is a private residence, so no touring this one. We drove as close to Classiebawn Castle as we could and got some great pictures. Would love it if they ever opened it for touring.

As far as I am aware not open to the public so it’s nice to appreciate from a distance, like a mountain that is several miles away.

To say it provides anything more than a nice silhouette for photographs gives it too much credit.

The public don't have access to Classiebawn so why it's listed on TripAdvisor as an attraction which can be reviewed, is anyone's guess! Nonetheless, it's a shame this beautiful castle isn't open to the public. We stopped to take photographs at the gate lodge the other evening, but had the feeling we shouldn't have been there. There are security warnings inside the gate about trespassers etc. The two pillars at the gate have beautiful crests on them, obviously related to Earl Mountbatten of Burma. Even so, there is something very mysterious about this place. It looks glorious high on the hill in the sunshine, yet in the mist and rain it has a very eerie, almost ghostly appearance. It would be great if it's opened at some time in the future, and if it is, we will be back to see it.

like a Continental chateaux perched on a slope overlooking Donegal bay, mountains and beyond. magnificent views of the Daltry mountain range made famous by the poet W.B. Yeats 'under bare Ben Bulbins head' etc. with a view of innishmurray the enchanted isle. you cannot fail to be moved by nature's unspoiled beauty as you watch the sun set on mullaghmore strand and majestic Ben Bulbin's prow.

As we were in the area we stopped to look at the Castle which is a private residence. I was interested to see the M and B cypher for Mountbatten on the gates. The castle was inherited by Lord Mountbatten's wife, Lady Edwina who was related to Lord Palmerston who took over the castle at the end of the 19th century. Further along the road we stopped to view the plaque which shows the Mountbatten family photograph on the beach where they spent their summers until Lord Mountbatten and 3 companions were murdered just over 40 years ago. The sea was wild and untamed and atmospheric and the area is full of unspoiled natural beauty and worth a visit.
