This house is more Federal in appearance and so is its main history which sets it apart from some of the others around greater Nashville. The connection between the early Settlers, the Donelsons, the Smiths, the Jacksons, is told here. Some more human details about...More

The Rock Castle is not a castle at all. But, since this home dates to the 1780’s-1790’s (the oldest home in TN) and the other homes of the times being 1 room log cabins, this home became known as “The Rock Castle”. The home is...More

We looked for something off-beat in the area and found Rock Castle in TA. Claire was our guide and proved to be very knowledgeable and informative about this charming old home on the water. She knew much of the history of the Smith Family, but...More

The young lady that led us through the Rock Castle as sooo informative. She gave us personal stories of the family, the surrounding area and the era. How much better can it get?!

Our guide for the tour, Sam, was wonderful. His enthusiasm for the history of the area and his "added" touches (not part of a script) were so appreciated. We learned so much on this tour about this area. Highly recommend a visit to this location.

We've toured the "Castle" at least twice now and have taken away new information each time. The last time, our tour guide was a local high school teacher who was incredibly informative. In the spring the grounds host a hands-on history event with period weapons,...More

The AAA tour book said it was "several levels" -- NOT SO! Only 2 levels. Small square footage so not much to see. Kids would be bored.

The draw is the historic home made out of local rock quarried near by but there is much more to the visit. The house sits like a beacon overlooking Old Hickory Lake and the grounds draw you in to another time. You must tour the...More
