We stayed in a rustic cabin and loved it, fireplace, wifi, 2 bedroom with queen beds. Microwave, dishwasher, stove, and refrigerator in the kitchen. You can buy firewood. Also outdoor fire pits. Only disappointment- restaurant only open Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Snack bar at golf course not reliable. We played golf on Tuesday and Wednesday, closed on Tuesday but open on Wednesday.

Nightly rates at the Inn are pretty expensive even though the restaurant and pool are closed. Continental breakfast was supposed to be offered but all that was available were about 4 oranges and some stale cereal (with no milk!) Inn is very outdated and smells very old. Not many amenities at all. Will NOT come back.

We love the cabin! Perfect for our group with two big beds, two bathrooms, and a Kitchen. I brought sidewalk chalk for the toddler to enjoy, and the teenagers want to play on all 4 playgrounds! With all the activities we have planned I found it hard to let them play on each one!, But who says we can't have a picnic lunch after we check out at one of them. We are sorry the pool didn't open, but we understand, and we missed out on tasting the restaurant, but we look forward to next time. We went tubing in the Duck River, hiking, and made s'mores - a real outdoor trip that everyone enjoyed!

Spent 3 nights in Cabin 4. Very nice deluxe cabin and the price was great too. Had 2 bedrooms and 2 full baths. My husband and I love having separate baths at home so this was really nice for us. The cabin was clean the furniture was in great condition, nice TV with lots of stations and wifi. The park was so nice and clean. The pool was about to open and it looked great. We had neighbors but the cabins are situated where you have your picnic table and fire ring and privacy if you want to sit outside for a while. The A/C worked great in the cabin. We hiked on the trails at the Park. We drove to Lynchburg one day and toured the Jack Daniel's Distillery, its only 31 miles from the park. Had an overall great time. Would highly recommend the state park and Cabin #4

Simple, well maintained park. Too close to a major Highway to feel like you are “back to nature”. Stayed in rustic cabin 2 and it was very nice. Recently renovated with all new bathroom, nice kitchen and new flooring. Dishes and cookware were a little sparse, so bring your own if you plan on cooking. Bath towels were new, thick and large. Bring your own pillow - the ones provided were old and hard. Beds were comfy except for the pillows. Wood fireplace was great. The Duck River is beautiful.

Camped for 4 days with family 2 RVs and 2 different sites. We went on all the trails. Stupendously interesting geologic area there. Rangers and staff were wonderful, knowledgeable and friendly. Camp hosts were great, bathrooms were spotless and decorated nicely. Will return.

Great place to stay. Henry Horton has built a new restaurant which is really good. I was told a new lodge is coming at some point. We stayed in the campground, which had water and electricity only, but the site was nice. Had a little slope but not too bad. Overall we enjoyed our visit

Some of the reviews here are glowing, and others say the park is awful. I think the truth lies in between, and hinges a lot on your plans and expectations. Henry Horton is a small park, and its facilities are older. The buildings date back to the 60s and that's pretty apparent. The cabins are definitely dated, and they would not be my first choice for a place to stay. The park is also fairly remote, so there are not a lot of services nearby. There are a couple gas stations within a mile or so, and that's about it. If you are staying here overnight, you should bring what you need with you.

That said, I think the park is worth a visit, especially for a day hike, a family picnic, or a short camping trip. I find the campground to be pretty nice, with lots of wooded sites for both tent campers and RVs. There is a nice, new-ish bath and shower facility, and a pretty decent hiking trail runs behind the campground. Some sites sit near the Duck River, a great place to explore in a canoe or kayak. The park has a small boat ramp (admittedly hard to find) near the picnic tables that run along the river.

Another short but scenic hiking trail runs along the river and also takes you along a small creek that feeds into the river, providing some opportunities to get your feet wet in the creek. The park has a restaurant with typical state park food, a large playground for the kids with plenty of space to roam, lots of picnic tables and pavilions, and a older (but gigantic) pool for families.

I would be the first to say that this is not a destination park that is going to wow you with entertainment at every moment. But, it's not bad little park for a family with young kids looking to camp for a couple days and do a bit of hiking, swimming, grilling, and making memories. If those are your expectations, you can have a good time at Henry Horton. If I was looking for inn or cabin reservations, I'd probably pass.

We came to the park for a family reunion and stayed in Cabin #1. Although the cabin looked okay when I stepped in the door, the longer we stayed there, the more faults I found. Many of the electrical things simply didn't work. The cabin was the dirtiest one I've ever been in--someone mentioned that at least I wasn't in a tent and I responded that wilderness camping is cleaner than this cabin. Windows and blinds that hadn't been cleaned for years, likely, dust and webs all around, dirty and sticky upholstery, window sill filled with dirt and dead insects. That's enough--I could go on and on but I don't want you to vomit. Other than the cabin the park seemed ok. Hubby loved the golf course. Food in the restaurant was, again, very poor quality as was the service. Swimming pool was fine. I hope the management gets this place up to standard as the grounds were lovely.

We drove out to the Henry Horton State Park to do a short day hike on one of the wooded trails. We were attracted to the park because we expected that it would (like most TN parks) be well kept and offer great scenery. Unfortunately, we were sorely disappointed.

The first problem is that the park has very few signs directing travelers to the hiking trails. We entered the park and drove around for 15-20 minutes trying to find a trailhead. No signs anywhere -- except for directing people to the inn or campground. So, I went into the front desk area and asked the clerk. She informed me that the main trail was actually BEFORE you get inside the park and that the other trails were at other places (which were equally hard to find) inside the park. After receiving these directions, I drove outside of the park and, sure enough, there was the trail.

Once on the actual trail, the scenery was rather unremarkable. It traversed through flat evergreen areas and did not have any interesting elevations or points of interest. In my view, the trail at Crockett Park in Brentwood is much better and has better scenery.

Overall....this was a major bust. It's really not any better than your average city/town park and clearly falls short of the standard set by other state parks in TN. The only redeeming feature of the park was the playground for small children. While it was fairly typical setup, our kids had fun on it.
