I'd call before coming to make sure the museum is open. Most visits include a guided tour of the museum. I helped start the museum and donated some of the display items. Great for school groups.

We were surprised at the exhibits in this small museum. Learning the reason for damming the Watauga river is riveting along with the stories of those that had to leave their homes is heart rendering.

This is a great local museum giving the story of the town that refused to drown. The photos, artifacts, and excellent tour guides provide you with the human side of historical events. Set aside an hour or so and learn what lies below Lake Watauga.

The photo is NOT of the Butler Museum. The Museum is small, a replica of the original Butler Train Station - not a gigantic white building.
