Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

You are not missing anything either. The owner spent way too much money and wanted too much money for everything within the place. He has made a negative name for himself through the community as well.

This was the largest pawn shop in America according to their advertisements.
Once South Dakota passed the law limiting the interest that short term loan companies can charge, Dollar Loan Center closed. Profits from DLC supported the other businesses that Chuck Brennen owned. Badlands Pawn was one of these businesses. Before the closure, the "other" businesses within Badlands Pawn were great. They had a sister company Badlands Radio next door which survived for a while after the closing of Badlands Pawn, but has since closed also. They were holding weekly concerts at nights using the pawn shop area. There was a shooting range, and a deli within the building. Unfortunately, they must have needed the additional funding from DLC to be profitable with their innovative ideas. I would have rated them a five if they were still open.

I never go into pawn shops. No need, because where I live, pawn shops are junk shops. But my cousin wanted us to check this place out. So it's off to the pawn shop we go. Much bigger than any pawn shop I have seen. I liked the built up apocalyptic vehicles out side. Inside is a nicely set up store. I didn't need any used items, but I did want some long sleeve tee shirts and my coffee cup. My wife found some clothing for her and I found a nice Black Hills Gold necklace. Being I was born in the Black Hill, I had to get it for her. And it was at a great price, thanks :)
I found the shooting range and gun shop. I picked up a 10 round clip for my Mini 14. Something I would never find in Hawaii. I wanted to hit the shooting range but we didn't have the time. I did have fun talking to the gentlemen running the range and the couple behind the jewelry cabinets. Awesome people all through the store. From what I understand, there is live music days and nights. If your in the area, stop in and check them out. Aloha All, see ya next time.

While the rest of the Badlands business is closed, the gun range is clearly thriving. A clean, well organized, and professionally staffed retail space offers a wide assortment of gun shop basics as well as some unique, custom, and specialty items. Pricing is typical of many other gun shops, and there are some deals to be made. The range is impressive, and among the cleanest and well maintained I've been to. Several staff members were working during our visit and all offered their help at one point or another. This range allows a variety of firearm calibers, you can bring your own ammo, draw from the holster, and shoot as you wish without an RSO hovering over you. Range and rental fees are typical. Thanks to Larry and his staff for the great visit, and we'll come again.

We searched the travel books and of course on trip advisor and this was highly recommended, so we stopped. The only thing that is still open is the firing range. The pawn shop is closed forever! We walked through the doors and when we inquired about the pawn shop the associate was quite rude, he said, "don't you watch the news, it was all over the news that we were closing as of January 2017." Well yes we watch the news, however in Wisconsin we don't get the South Dakota news. So save yourself a stop.

My boyfriend and I happened into Badlands Pawn. We were staying in the hotel right next door, and we had some time to kill, so we decided to stop in. We were pleasantly surprised. It was unlike any other pawn shop we have ever been in! In fact, it wasn't just a pawn shop. They were a restaurant, a radio station, a concert hall, and so much more. They even had 5 cent coffee (an apparent tradition). Overall, it was quite an experience. Not the most exciting thing we did while in Sioux Falls, but nevertheless, it was a cool thing to see.

Advertised as a pawn shop, however very little inventory available. There is a firing range indoors as well as a place to eat. Prices are very high compared to similar business in the area.

I drove to Sioux Falls to see a concert, and had never been to the venue. I arrived in early, intending to just find out a little information, and come back later. I walked in the front door, into a clean and welcoming front lobby, with a security desk directly in front of me, and a smiling and friendly guy behind the desk. Upon informing him why I was there, and letting him know I had never been there before, I was offered a quick tour of one of the most unique places I have had the good fortune to visit.
Yes, this is a working pawn shop. They have the usual items available, but in a very organized, well staffed, and friendly environment. There are also some absolutely unique items in this one, that I had never seen elsewhere, including a stunningly beautiful sports car parked on the sales floor. They also have a gift shop area, with souvenirs of the location..ranging from keychains and coffee mugs, to leather jackets. In one corner, they have a deli..with excellent food. There is a working radio station in the building, an indoor gun range, and a bar. They also have a "flying"guitar rack.
On some nights..the movable pawn shop disappears from view..and becomes a concert venue. It offers a large open general admission area next to the stage..and VIP seating options in the upstairs bar, all the way to suites.
I never left the place. I spent the day exploring until they closed early to set up the event, then visited the food truck set up outside, and joined the first arrivals for that nights show. I spoke with many staff members during the day, had a lot of laughs, enjoyed it immensely, and yes, I will be returning.
It's easy to locate, it's highly accessible, and the staff is top shelf!. They were all friendly welcoming and helpful..and they added a lot to the experience. Go to a show there, or just stop and take a look at the place..but plan to stay a few hours..there's a lot to see!
Not just a pawn shop, by any definition!

Went here on a whim just to look around. It's not your typical pawn shop. They did have some unique items, jewelry, lots of Badlands Pawn merchandise & a shooting range on one side of the building. It's worth a stop to check it out.
