A brand new building in 2015, amazing views of the Open Cut, surface tours of the old Homestake Mine and the current operations of the Sanford Underground Research Facility! The exhibits are beautiful and scenery is amazing!

The satellite image on Google Maps does not do this place justice! The view and the history behind the second largest gold mine in the hemisphere is well worth the visit.

It was hard to comprehend the size of this mining operation, even from the good exhibits, etc.. Now site being used for neutrino studies, equally interesting and complicated. Passed on chance to hit golf ball into surface mining hole.

This site gives you a look at the history of the gold mines in this area and then takes you into the future with the Nobel prize level physics being explored in these tunnels today.

Hello! We do not have gold panning right here at the Sanford Lab Homestake Visitor Center, but just 2 blocks up the street at the Black Hills Mining Museum, you can. Gold panning is also available at the Broken Boot Gold... More
