A presentation was given about the history of the mine's chronological history. It is simply amazing how deceptive the distances were. The lab itself is located over 4000 feet underground. There are many supporting graphics. Of course, there are souvenirs including black hills gold jewelry...More

I had an absolutely delightful visit and tour of this incredible facility. The exhibits at the Visitor Center were very informative and interesting and most importantly dumbed down enough for a layman like me to understand. The staff there were really friendly and helpful and...More

This visitors centre offers two unique perspectives on the Lead area. Firstly it recognizes and celebrates the natural history, first nations heritage, prospecting and mining heritage of the area. This includes historic reflections on the towns development over the last 100+ years and the link...More

Decided to stop here while driving to Spearfish Canyon. This was an informative visitor center and "museum". It was staffed by a very lovely and informative woman. I wish I could remember her name. She was very helpful. And, they had some shirts 50% off!...More

We almost bypassed this building since it wasn't clear to us what it was, but I looked it up online while we were in the coffee shop across the street. Because it was free, we thought it wouldn't hurt to look. It was very interesting...More

Pretty neat to see how the ground is cut for mining. Great place to see the equipment that goes into cutting through the earth. Wonderful exhibits here. I recommend visiting if you are interested in mining or history.

Who knew? The displays are wonderful, but the 3D of what lies below the surface is, as stated incredible. The story of the original find, and the progression to today speaks to technology and change. A must if in Lead.
