Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

NaturFactor is a one man company, José, an outdoor enthusiast who provides tours at weekends and holidays. We climbed Mt Pico with another group, total 7 of us. From first contact, great comms via email on logistics and weather etc, we were advised to get the first ferry of the day from Faial (<€5 each) and were picked up from the ferry port in Horta. Straight up to Mt Pico visitor centre, briefed and provided with walking poles, then off we set. José was patient and very considered, setting an appropriate pace for our ability and helping people out as required, in a very calm and confident way. The climb itself I would split into 4 parts, the first 3 with walking poles; hike on grass / grippy rocks, hike on loose rocks / slippy soil, flattish hike on the flat crater. Finally, a reasonably challenging climb up to the summit requiring hands on rocks. We got to the summit in about 3 hours, and roughly the same back down, ages 18-50, generally fit but not especially skilled or athletic! It was tough but extremely satisfying. José was a good guide, taking sensible rest points for toilet and food, water, and providing advice and support in an understated way. He also drove us back to the ferry port just in time to get the 4pm ferry back which suited us really well.
The good; views, flexibility, calm and experienced guide, the challenge, the weather (we were very lucky). €45 each vs the market rate which seems to be €55
Could be better; not much really, perhaps a bit more commentary on the flora and landscape although to be honest, you have to concentrate with every single step to avoid so probably best not to distract ! Everyone enjoyed the climb, some more on reflection the next day than at the time as it is quiet challenging and requires some bravery and confidence :-)

Rented road bikes (one specialized and one e-bike) for three days
Jose delivered right to hotel and picked them up!
Did three days of busy cycling (posted on strava) complete with stops for lunch
Bikes in excellent condition which is quite important for the downhills
Very few rental locations so great we found this last minute when another shop we used before closed
Excellent communication before and after renting since it was the first time we used an e-bike (which was necessary for these routes for the slower member of the family who was not on a road bike)

We did a full island wine tasting tour. Unfortunately, as the tour was near to Christmas Eve the Wine museum and the Volcano Experience were both closed.Additionally, since some friends had taken from San Roque to Lajes the previous day, we did not need to re-visit those locations. Our guide tried to compensate for our inability to visit the Wine Museum and the Volcano experience by taking us to a botanic garden but it didn’t really measure up. On balance it was disappointing and over-priced

We climbed Pico volcano with Jose and had a great time! Jose is extremely experienced and planned for all eventualities. He kept us on a good, steady pace and timed the sections almost to the minute! And he knew the best routes over the lava fields. We definitely wouldn't have done this alone and would recommend him to every thinking of climbing the mountain!

We did a kayak and a bike tour with NaturFactor.
Kids are 10 and 13. We are not looking for performance but rather another way to discover the places we visit.
NaturFactor are very professional, they will evaluate your skills and always take care of your safety.
Equipments are in very good conditions.
If you're looking for a sport challenge it's ok too ........
Thank you José !

Just got back from my first trip to the Azores and had the pleasure of spending time with José, Nivia, and the NaturFactor team. What an amazing experience! Biking through vineyards, hiking to a remote village, exploring a lava tube, rappelling down an ocean-side cliff, and taking photos under waterfalls and rainbows. José provides all the gear, knowledge, laughter and support you will need to enjoy a unique visit to these beautiful islands. Can't wait to go back!

We spent a wonderful day with Jose exploring the beautiful island of Pico. Jose picked us up promptly at 9 and we didn't return until 6. He customized the experience based on our desires. He stopped at spots known only by locals. Jose's knowledge about the island made it a memorable time.

Went with some friends for a kayak trip, 2 per canoe. The route is determined according to the weather.
The NaturFactor team was very professional keeping us up to date by email and telephone.
When the group ended the supposed route, the guide offered to make a longer route since the weather was good and the group moved fast, what ended in an almost twice as long ride, without extra costs.
At the end they serve a pretty good lunch with fruit juice, fruit, sandwich and cereal bar.
They also take pictures along the ride and email them to you.
Surely recommended?
