Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great nature walk area to see wildlife and landscape.
Quick hits
- It's a swamp... Bring bug spray. Use it.
- If you like taking photos of wildlife and scenery this is for you
- Dress for the weather/heat/sun. There is mixed shade and sunny spots
- wear comfortable, waterproof, closed-toed shoes.

Have heard about this place for years, finally got the chance to visit. The trails are well maintained and it is hard to believe you are just outside large metropolitan area. We walked all of the trails and the scenery is great, did not see much wildlife but what we did see was interesting. Not sure if I would visit in the summer, but the cooler moths should be great.

Four of us went to the Caw Caw Wildlife Center. We spent an hour walking in the late afternoon. It was a nice walk, and we saw the rice fields with their raised dikes, but was two songbirds and two squirrels. Somewhat of a disappointment. The staff there was both friendly and knowledgeable.

We spent the morning at this incredibly beautiful nature preserve wandering through peaceful swamp and wooded trails observing birds of all kinds. We identified over 30 different species in just two hours. A not-to-be-missed gem for anyone interested in the natural world.

We spent the morning in the interpretive center learning a little about the local history of the area. It was very well laid out and very educational! The staff was very friendly, helpful, and full of information they freely shared.
We took about an hours hike on the trails after that. Beautiful area and we spotted three small alligators and other wildlife. Great area, highly enjoyable and recommended

I read some forums about Charleston before visiting, and everyone kept saying that you should go to Caw Caw Interpretive Center if you want to see wildlife. It did not disappoint. We walked a few miles around the area and saw alligator, snakes, turtles and many birds. I would definitely keep an eye on small kids here, because there were a lot of snakes. My teenage boys loved it though!

Unfortunately, we kept getting waves of very violent thunderstorms while we were out in the open, many miles from our car. All of the lightening around us was kind of scary and we got completely soaked! Be aware that storms like that do pop up and there is no shelter on the trails.

All in all though, my whole family loved this place.

So, as part of my 8th grader’s social studies project, we went here to figure out what it had to do with South Carolina history. Since we are birders, we joined in a bird walk. The bird walk was just Ok, as we really didn’t see many birds. The guide was great and we did see the wildlife and the landscape. My daughter liked the museum/gift shop better. Is is cheap to get in and just enjoy the outdoors.

Great hiking area. We saw lots of wildlife, from snakes, lizards, song birds, turkeys, and of course some alligators. The cost was $2 per person to get in.
