Walking through the National Aviary is like walking through bird habitats across the globe. Africa, Asia, and South America. Water-walking flamingos and soaring pelicans are just a couple of the great features here. Visit the feeding, it is very interactive, because you get to hold...More

The variety of birds they have is quite impressive. The signage explaining about the species and it's characteristics (many are endangered) is well done. I spent several hours just wandering through. In several large rooms the birds roam free, you can just sit and watch...More

The National Aviary is a wonderful place to see more than 200 species of birds under one roof. I particularly enjoyed feeding the lorikeets. I held my hand out with a small bowl of nectar and they flew down to eat. They have some long...More

If this is the only aviary you ever get to visit then it is definitely worth it. There are two large areas where you can sit and observe the birds as they fly all around you. Be sure to take in a show or two,...More

First things first: I disliked entering through and paying in the giftshop. This may have only been because they were doing renovations and the other entrance was closed- I'm unsure. There certainly was a general "please donate, we need your money" overall vibe to the...More

Great fun for all ages from about 5 and up. Besides numerous walk-through indoor aviaries and glassed-in cages, the aviary provides hourly interactive demonstrations with different live species throughout the day that help to make an enjoyable 3-4 hours of fun for the entire family....More

The National Aviary is a wonderful place for families. I thought that the aviary would be bigger than it actually is, but what they lack in size is made up for in variety. There are so many birds, including eagles, parrots, and turkeys, to delight...More

First some accolades. The National Aviary, located in the history West Park area of Pittsburgh’s North Side, is the only independent, non-profit indoor aviary in the country. This is quite a feat, as in the 90s the city almost voted to shut it down due...More

The National Aviary is in a residential neighborhood. Parking is easy, and the Children's Museum is a few blocks away. The Aviary itself is very nice, including large habitat rooms for different natural environments. The plants and birds of that habitat are all around you--not...More

I have taken a large group through and you could do all of the exhibits in 2 hours. But you could stay longer if you take in one of the bird shows.
