Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

There are nice trails- alittle difficult to navigate without a map. There are nature classes offered and a small gift shop. Dogs aren't permitted- boo hiss.

My wife and I drove past Tyler Arboretum on this mild sunny Saturday that was windy and just a day after quite a bit of rain. We decided to visit to get in a walk and look at the plants and trees. First we were surprised by the $13 each when others in the area are free. The visit was disappointing in that plants and trees were not well marked and where they were it necessitated stepping off the trail and in mud to look at the markings. The grassy areas had poor drainage and were soggy. Maybe a winter entrance fee of a couple dollars would be more appropriate. I'll stick to walking through open parks, neighborhoods and college campuses.

I wanted to bring my 5 and 2 year old niece/nephew to Tyler and was first of all surprised at the cost - a small fortune for what was less than a 2 hour adventure. Some exhibits weren't open, treehouses in need of repair, trails not make for strollers which made it challenging. Unless your kids are really into nature and can climb, save it for the older kids and tweens. But the price! Could have deterred me from the start.

We visited Tyler Arboretum and it was magnificent. It is such a beautiful and peaceful place. You could spend the entire day or just a few hours. Bring a lunch and there are so many places to enjoy n

I’ve been a member of Tyler for over 20 yrs.! But, I just started visiting on a regular basis last summer. I really enjoyed the vegetable garden and seeing all the flowers blooming. Now, I’m enjoying the solace of the trees. It’s a great place to walk and disconnect.

We are members at Tyler and enjoy coming here with our kids, there is always so much to do. We love hiking and Tyler offers some terrific trails, our kids especially like the Blue Trail which has multiple water crossings and a point that intersects with the Red, Orange and White Trails at Dismal Run where they can climb boulders in the creek and explore. We also enjoy the paved loop and my kids still enjoy visiting the now aging treehouses. A seasonal favorite is seeing the goats which visit in the summer to eat down grass and weeds. Lots of other things to see including the fairy trail, a maze, the gobblin shack and Thoreau's house, the pond, and a new edible garden project is underway (which has closed the butterfly house). We often bring a picnic lunch and set up on the lawn apart from the official picnic area. If you are a plant person, they have plant sales seasonally as well as lots of seasonal programs for adults and kids. Recommemd Tyler highly!

This is a beautifully maintained Arboretum with native and exotic plants. There are several walking trails as well as an event space.

So many trails to choose from, all well-marked. Can also pick up a map in the visitor center. Lots of shade and things to do for the kids--imaginative treehouses, summer camps, weekday outings and activities. They also have an annual plant sale that is wonderful.

If Longwood Gardens is for adults then Tyler Arboretum is definitely for kids. Longwood is too huge for little kids but you can do just about everything at Tyler Arboretum and still make the relatively short walk back to the car if a tantrum erupts. Don't think this is only for kids. Once you get deep into the Arboretum you come to the hiking trails and can spend hours walking around. You can let your kids have fun and explore or point out the various labels on the trees to educate them. (There is also The Thoreau House and Vegetable Garden for more education) - one warning: goats have their own schedule. On the day we went we looked high and low from paddock to paddock looking for the goats and never saw one. Still worth the trip.

The Tyler Arboretum is one of the oldest and largest arboreta in the northeastern United States. It is open year round. The arboretum contains 650 acres and 17 miles of hiking trails. The Arboretum’s collections include rare plant specimens, ancient trees and historic buildings. It is a fantastic place to visit and get educated as one walks the marvelous grounds.

Dear Tony D.,
Thank you for your review.
We are aware that a few of our treehouses are in need of repairs; our small staff is actively pursuing bids and appropriate funding to correct this situation. Thank you for your concern.
Tyler’s reciprocal admission program with Morris Arboretum ended on December 31, 2017 and was a mutually agreed upon arrangement based on a 90-mile exclusion radius. Morris members no longer receive free admission to Tyler, and Tyler members no longer receive free admission to Morris.
The 90-mile agreement also means members of Morris Arboretum no longer receive free admission to Bartrams Gardens, the Delaware Center for Horticulture, the University of Delaware Botanic Garden, Winterthur, Hershey Gardens, and the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society.

Are the insect sculptures along a paved path? I recently injured my foot, but would like to bring my granddaughter for the last days.
Written 28 August 2017
Some of the paths are paved, some are grassy. I, too, have difficulty walking having been hit by a car a year ago and have a rod in my tibia and ligaments replaced in the other knee. I just went slowly and didn't have any trouble with it. I actually used my granddaughter's stroller for stability, although I no longer use a cane or other apparatus. Hope this helps!

For the most part, they are just off the pathway. There are a few that you would need to walk over grass fields to get closer to (like the giant praying mantis and daddy long legs). I hope this helps!
