Horrible experience getting Beginner Lessons at Thredbo. Staff are terribly unprofessional. It is an absolute waste of money, the staff don’t care and merely show up for their free lift pass. We saw one of the other instructors yell at a toddler to “keep up” as his skiing skills were not good enough for her. The kid was barely waist high!
My instructor was no different. She couldn’t give two F-s either about our class so it seems to be a regular issue. By the end of the lesson, one of the other male students couldn’t even stand up and our instructor just kept leaving him behind on the slopes. The lessons were not properly marked on Friday Flat it seems the incompetence was all around.
On the day of my lesson I arrived early but after waiting there (by the flags where I was told to go by one of the staff) for a couple more minutes, I decided to ask another person where the Adult Beginner Ski Lessons were as no beginner adults were showing up and was pointed by another staff to the side of the building where it’s hidden in the back where they had a small slope.
After getting ignored and given dirty looks from the old lady instructing the group. She proceeded to stop me from participating in the class. She would ask everyone to do the same drill whilst telling me to stay back and not go on the lift (which I paid for!) and made me climb the slope on foot side ways whilst everyone even if I was already present for the entirety of that lesson. She spitefully instructed me to climb up and down that slippery pile of snow sideways without skiing whilst they used the tiny lift carpet so by the time I got to the top, they’d already done many laps skiing down and the lessons were almost over. This old lady made me do this for the entirety of the lesson and I’m not kidding. I was prevented from using that hour of lessons to climb up or and wasn’t allowed to do the drills so I never got to learn in that beginner slope just cause she was dirty I had missed the first part of class when they were being taught how to strap on their skis. But ego is ego. An instructor has got to assert theirs. This is what I paid almost a $100 for.
I ended up learning by myself that day on the big slopes. On my own. The others in the class rode the chairlift with me to the real slopes and I watched them and we skiid together. I had fun doing that. They told me they didn’t get why that instructor singled me out when the others couldn’t even stand up.
At any cost, avoid these rip-off classes! Even if they’re free! Waste of time! You’ll learn more than you ever will on your own or with the guidance of an experienced friend than on this rip-off of a beginner class i DO NOT recommend to anybody.
Unless you want to end up like that guy I mentioned that couldn’t even stand that was in our class she kept leaving behind on the slopes. Appalling.

Great location and ski experience but overpriced chair lift and ski lessons for beginners. The Guest Services are biased in cancelling and refunding very expensive ski lessons. Poorly organised during ski season. Ski lessons are popular as most tourists want to learn ski and are booked in advance. The beginners lessons donot include the escalator belt and they have to buy expensive $189 chair lift pass for all lifts in addition to paying separately for expensive ski lessons. The beginners escalator belt should be included in the ski lesson as they can't be expected to ski down from other chair lifts since they are learning. Since, they are paying for all chair lifts, some will be compelled to try using chair lifts meant for intermediate or advanced skiers, that is, blue level etc. This should lead to accidents. In case of accidents, I am sure that the Thredbo Authorities would like to show the disclaimers signed by poor beginners. So, chair lifts for yellow levels should be included in their tickets. I booked 2 consecutive lessons, not knowing what was involved in each 2 hour lessons. I couldn't do the second lesson, nor could I use any of the chair lifts as they require passengers with skis on. The Guest Services refused to give me a refund and was not helpful at all. So, I paid more than $600 for gear, lessons and chair lifts without using any of that. ACCC need to look at their business practices. Their Terms and Conditions refer to Consumer Laws but the Guest Service staff doesn't really follow it in their decision making. It is more to use it to their defence. This discourages the tourists to try sking. I also think that they try to ignore/trivialise the accidents. There has to be risk warnings and other precautionary prompt messages when booking online, especially for beginner skiers. Otherwise, it is a great ski resort and the teachers teach well.

We have just returned to Sydney after ten days in Thredbo and loved every minute of it. There is so much to do or so little if you just want a rest.
We booked an apartment through Thredbo Ski Accommodation who were friendly, helpful and had quality properties. The views from most apartments/lodges are spectacular with lots of birdlife.
There are many walking tracks aimed at different levels as well as bike riding, golf, disc golf, indoor pool or just sitting in the sun relaxing.
Thredbo is an easy and scenic drive into Jindabyne so we spent time swimming in the lake, eating at Cafes and visiting the gin distillery after morning walks.
We recommend Thredbo to both couples and families.

Beautiful place. Unfortunately not well run. Very expensive and staff are rude to guests. Locals and guests treated awfully. Not recommend for families. Service is atrocious. Lift passes are the same price in other much bigger, better resorts world wide. Feeling ripped off.
Food on the mountain is very expensive and ordinary if you can get a seat/table.
Nothing for young children to do.
Very dissapointing

Ski in ski out chalets are good in terms of location. However the service at a self proclaimed 5 star institution was akin to a 1 Star motel. The main employee was rude, condescending and short tempered. He was unwilling to help us in anyway and not only charged us $40 for 6 rolls of toilet paper but lied and bad mouthed other guests to us. As someone who stays in 5 star hotels and apartments regularly, I am dumbfounded as to how someone so inhospitable could be allowed to manage a premium venue like ski in ski out chalets. Watch out!

We are currently in Thredbo. All the restaurants are fully booked so we went to the ONLY supermarket to buy food to cook. Unfortunately, the supermarket was closed due to an 'internet error'. Fortunately that was not the case at Al Fresco pizza so we managed to order a take away pizza at 5.30pm and lucky we went when we did - by the time we waited 30 minutes for our pizza there were more than 30 people waiting for pizza. It seems they couldn't book into a restaurant or buy food at the supermarket either. An unbelievable state of affairs!
The availability and standard of food on the mountain is also pretty tragic this year.
Apparently, there are significant staff shortages causing many of these problems. We heard this is because the new mountain management has turned previous staff accommodation into B&B rentals so now staff have to drive from Jindabyne or Berridale. If you treat staff badly, they won't work for you! (and I won't even start on the cost of season passes in 2022)
My family has skied at Thredbo for more than 50 years. After 2 years of COVID there was an opportunity to come back with a bang - hard to imagine how you got it so wrong.

The management and team at Thredbo are doing an excellent job of developing the Village as an all year holiday destination. I'll be coming back multiple times per year for many years to come. I highly recommend Thredbo

You guys have prices that most Aussie families can’t afford now . Your price hike from last year for yearly tickets is just blooming insane and wake up because karma will take hold soon and ppl will just go to NZ soon and you can just suck it . I was there in school holidays and the resort was 45% full . Maybe you will get the message that greed is not good .

Thredbo Alpine Village is one of my favourite places to be. The atmosphere of the whole village is one people chase as they hit the slopes during the day and have a nice sit down by the fire at night. This trip was nothing but amazing with all Thredbo Staff being helpful, kind and 100/10. I applaud the Thredbo management for hiring such nice, caring and helpful staff for the 2022 season. From Thredbo owned restaurant workers to lift operators, the staff went above and beyond in helping guide, teach, instruct and point you towards the right direction. I am so amazed at the love and passion these people have for their jobs, I can’t wait to come back to the village and hopefully join this amazing team in the near further :)

We were very surprised to learn that Thredbo is suited only to those who ski or snowboard. There is no play area for children and toboggans are not permitted. We were surprised to see so many families in this area was small children and toddlers and were left wondering what they do all day with their kids. We wanted to taboggan, build a snowman, play in the snow and quickly discovered that thredbo did not cater for this. The village was "meh" and clearly suited to the tourist dollar. We quickly left and went to perisher, where we had the best time ever. If u r primarily skiing or snowboarding I can see that Thredbo would be perfect but it definitely was not for us. Dead Horse Gap just up from Thredbo was full of snow and perfect to explore, play and taboggan in as well. We were super grateful to have some locals suggest to us to stop here.

Hi there,
Is early June a good time to expect snow? We're planning on booking ski lessons, the Thredbo resort itself is open however I'm unsure if there'd be snow then. Last year I hear there was little or no snow in June.
We'll mainly be looking to learn and I believe Friday flats is where we need to go?
Thanks.

If you want to be sure of good snow, go in July or August. There's nothing more disappointing than arriving for your holiday to find bare ground. It will certainly cost you less to go in June but it's a false economy if you can't guarantee what you're going for --- actual snow. Enjoy.

Howdy Sydney837, barb329 pretty much covered it, also take into consideration the wild life and traffic when travelling early in the morning, also look at catching the chair lift to the top and having a good look around and remember to take some cold weather snow cloths and shoes.
Cheers
