    Picturesque!
Very quaint and picturesque. It was y favorite of the village I visited in the Cotswolds district. The small church is worth a quick visit, and be sure to walk down the square to the bridge. The may well have been a castle somewhere in or near the village in antiquity, but there is none that is there, now, despite the village name.

The village exudes charm and character at every turn, with its quaint cottages and cobblestone streets evoking a sense of timeless beauty. It's a true gem of the Cotswolds, offering a glimpse into a bygone era and leaving a lasting impression on all who visit.

    Quaint Cotswolds village
Beautiful Cotswold village. Can spend an hour here easily, or take your time have some food at the pub, walk around the manor gardens, read about War Horse being filmed here in the church, get a tasty takeaway cake and coffee from somebody’s front door. We spent nearly 3 hours here, very enjoyable.

A feeling of being a time traveller landing in this quintessential English village
A village that was built in the reigns of Queen Elizabeth I and King James I with history of settlement dating back to the Romans. Worth a day visit; it has large local car park with a 5 minute walk downhill to the village to be greeted with a feeling of being a time traveller lancing in the 17th century with little unchanged. Walk to the bridge at the other side to enjoy the best and most classic photographic views.

    Lovely English Village
I thought this was a lovely little place to visit. The church has some lovely stained glass windows, and its grave yard makes for a nice place to wander on a sunny day. The area by the river is pretty. We stopped for tea and cake in a hidden place behind the village hall, which was lovely. It's definitely a quintessential Cotswold village that's not completely overrun with visitors... yet. We parked at the car park up the hill from the village. It's not easy for those less mobile. I definitely found it challenging (arthritic knee). It was only 80p to park and means that most cars aren't parked in the village. It would be nice if no visitor cars were allowed to drive through or park in the village... it would improve it for all I think.

Best Cotswolds Village - don't miss it !!!!
The best example of a traditional Cotswold village. Don't miss this place. It's like going back in time. The film War Horse was filmed here. Don't forget to visit the grounds of the manor house. Very beautiful and peaceful area, just 2 minute walk from centre. Parking is limited in the village. A few places are available on the roads into the village.

    Beautiful but not beautiful.
My tour in the cotswolds could not pass by here. It will be because it was the last stage but I was not as excited as I thought, as I read. What really nice and authentic are the women of the country who leave slices of cake and drinks outside the homes for the morning patrons who in self mode can have breakfast, snack... for little money.

We recommend taking pictures from the south side of the village towards the upper reaches of the river.
It's a village in the south of the Cotswolds. There is also a market cross and church in the centre of this village, and there is a famous manor house, but it was not accessible when I went there. It's a quiet little village that can be visited in about 30 minutes, and I recommend taking a picture from the south side of the village upriver. I went around on set with Lacock Abbey because I love Harry Potter. It's about a 15-minute drive away, so I recommend going to both.

If you are taking the train from Bristol Meads get off at Chippenham and take the bus to Castle combe village.
The bus will drop you to the village center by the church.
Visit the church first as it has useful touristy stuff like fridge magnets, post cards and walking tour pamplets for a nominal cost.
The other great thing about the church is the local history and remarkable architecture and breathtaking stainglass windows.
The village was the filming location for Dr Doolittle and The War horse.
The back of the churchyard pathway leads up to the backlane leading up to a beautiful open meadow with towering trees overlooking the ivy covered Manor House. The Manor house has a very elegant parlor and tearooms with fabulous views and is also a hotel.
From the Manor house are stone steps leading up to some quaint gardens, laid beautifuly on the gentle hill rising above the Manor.
You can amble along the different walking trails and pathways, and stop by the wayside "honesty boxes" to enjoy a bite from local ladies who whip up some great goodies and handmade stuff and you could take what you want and leave the money in the honesty boxes for your purchase.
There is a lovely restaurant in the village center offering some great local fare. It has outdoor seating with a great view of the main street.
Please be mindful that the village is home to very friendly people, but please respect their privacy and space too.
The last bus from the village leaves at 5 pm so ensure you are at the village center where the bus stop is.
Carry water and wear comfortable shoes and check the weather before you sally forth.
Be safe and enjoy the lovely village.

This is a beautiful and picturesque hamlet. A photographer’s paradise. The only problem was the residents. There was one cloths shop and you had to ring the doorbell if you wanted to go in, she came to the door and asked me if I wanted to come in, quite tersely. I avoided a sarcastic answer. The shop was tiny and it was difficult to see the items for sale. When we wanted to leave she asked us to ring a bell and she would lock the door behind us which we did. I did asked it there was any public toilets nearby, she pointed to the left and said ‘down there’ and promptly shut the door.
Apart from that it’s a lovely place to visit.
The car park is at the top of a long hill.

Beautiful Cotswold village with medieval market square and ancient church. Often called one of the prettiest villages in England. If touring in the area, definitely worth stopping to experience. You probably only need about an hour to enjoy the village as there honestly is not a lot to see or do in the village unless you plan to have a meal or picnic. Only a few shops. Keep in mind that this is a real life village and not Disneyworld which is what makes it special and authentic. Also beware that it is an extremely popular place for tourists, and the village can get swamped with people especially during the summer when coaches arrive. We arrived by car later in the day after 4pm on a weekday in September and it was very quiet. There is a carpark that is a 15 min walk north of the village although in retrospect that was not necessary as there were many parking spots along the road leading into the village. You should avoid trying to park right in the village which would distract from the beauty of the place. Make sure to stroll down to the bridge over the brook and go inside St Andrew's Church dating back to the 13th century. Beware that there are limited options to eat when arriving this late in the day. The Little Picnic Shop and The Old Stable Coffee Shop were closed. The White Hart Pub doesn't serve meals until after 6pm. If you do arrive earlier in the day, the Little Picnic Shop looked like an attractive option. You preorder a picnic basket of food and if it a nice sunny day, you can stroll down to the brook and find a nice place away from the crowds to enjoy a picnic lunch.

Look... I don't know if people glamourize their experiences a little bit, but people, of heart, don't deserve that whole appeal. This is a hard-to-access town because it is in the southern tip of the Cotswolds region, far away from the others. But as it is so spoken, we made an inoperative scheme to get there and, when we arrived, the disappointment was total. You know that bridge where people take pictures? That's all. That staircase is inside the Manor House is private and unless you have booked a room there or a cafe at the restaurant, you don't go in. (And is expensive, huh?). Compared to the others, in my opinion it was the worst.

A truly beautiful village, which I would have loved to spend more time visiting. Unfortunately the only car park is at the top of a steep hill. My husband has severe health problems and couldn't climb back up the hill, so we were hoping for at least one disabled parking area in the village. However, every possible space was full - there were lots of tourists - so we drove through, turned around and left.

Dunns Lane car park is not a welcoming place for Motorhomes. The civil enforcement officer (WN139) is happy to issue a ticket even if you are in the vehicle.
As there was nowhere to park and we didn’t want to be in the way we parked in the coach section which was empty, the MiPermit payment app, the councils sign and website didn’t advise that we couldn’t. So we paid the coach fee (as we are bigger than a car) only to have a warden give us a ticket while we were still in the Motorhome. Apparently they don’t welcome Motorhome visitors and you can’t park over and pay for two car places either. We were looking forward to going into the village, but will never go back.

This quaint village was one of my favorite Cotswolds villages I saw during my Cotswolds vacation! It feels like right out of a story book- with its picturesque streets, cobblestone, historic buildings, quiet vibes, charming cottages. Seriously, worth the visit! There is something unique & magical about these tiny Cotswolds villages…

We visited mid October. Alllll of the ivy was glowing in its deep red & orange hues against the buildings. It was everywhere. So beautiful. The air was chilly with leaves falling & all the cottages had fireplaces going. SUCH A VIBE TO WITNESS! So much beauty to photograph!

The village was ok… very small and not worth going to unless you just want pictures. We did everything as we were supposed to (parking in the designated places) and being respectfully quiet as we went at 9am. Nothing in the village was open.

The part that made me leave a review was how awful the Locals are! We had only seen a couple of them and all were unwelcoming and rude. I understand why no one wants to live there full time anymore - living in the same place as some of these people must be like hell. Nice village but not worth coming into contact with the rude people.

Well… we didn’t… because we couldn’t!
Posting this just to warn people… Gave up trying to even find a parking spot. This wasn’t even at a peak time… we thought we could just call in on a Sunday afternoon… Never seen so many people shoehorned into such a tiny village. Both my partner (local to the area) and I were shocked by this. Constant queuing for the car park which is woefully inadequate and a lot of people were obviously struggling to use the payment app. Really dangerous situation of people walking down the road into the town along the tiny lane. Some kind of shuttle bus is definitely needed… Absolute chaos of people just parking wherever by the side of the road, on double yellows (understandable really if you’ve driven a long way to come here). Chaos driving through the town… we ended up driving out the other side as there was nowhere to turn around… still more chaotic parking, people walking dangerously along the lane with not enough space for them… No wonder the locals are annoyed… We also saw a bit of rude ‘space grabbing’ in the main car park, so we gave up and returned to our own nearby town (Malmesbury) where we live which is also extremely picturesque, but the Internet hasn’t discovered that!

The village is basically a cute row of buildings, a Church and an estate manor hotel. There is a parking on top of the hill at 10 minutes walking from the center that has not enough spaces to accommodate the Sundays crowd, so people drive through the only road that ends on a little bridge and it becomes a funnel, then they park alongside the narrow street on double yellow lines in desperation and end up getting parking tickets or difficultly drive around for half hour up and down. If possible AVOID THE WEEKEND. It is cute, but very difficult to take pictures without crowds of people, one pub and a cafe with lines of tourists… I visited several other Cotswold villages that give a better experience.
