Even with snow on the ground I could tell this was a well maintained historic cemetery that sits on 35 acres and was founded in 1845. After the Civil War there were 155 men from both the union and the confederacy buried here. The headstones...More

Weed wacker needed almost everywhere. Poison ivy needs sprayed. Monuments are in pretty good shape, but lots of work needs to be done to bring the grounds up to par.

Because it was such a cold windy day, we choose to drive around the cemetery. The roads are old and grown over with grass. It's a little creepy, but in a good way.

David, the caretaker, will take you on a hour tour around the cemetery pointing out notable folks buried there, and there are several! Including business folks, suffragettes, actors and a bank robber. He makes the cemetery residents come to life (pun intended).

Walking through, I could imagine the people raising this great Nation and being laid to rest. The epidemics and plagues that had wiped out because of no cures. The backbreaking work that formed this Great county of ours.

This is a very old cemetery. I have quite a few relatives here. They don't do a lot of upkeep but maybe it was just the day we were there. American flags laying on ground. Wasn't very happy about that. It's not a very nice...More

This overlooked cemetery is worth a peek if you are nearby (perhaps to visit the National Civil War Museum). It is a classic Victorian-era burial ground which when constructed was in the country. The keeper's house is an excellent example of Victorian cottage architecture. Some...More
