This is a sanctuary and place for meditation. Hard to believe such a place is so close to a large, important city. While it may not be terribly interesting to followers of other religions, but a real “must see” for Catholics.

Very quiet and peaceful place for prayer...even with all the people around....beautiful grotto and stonework and right in the middle of the city. Amazing...great place to take a break from the busy touristy activities and slow down and contemplate life...or whatever.
We've been told that The Grotto is a must see when in Portland especially at night during Christmastime because the millions of lights are wondrous. We'd like to see that one day, but we're happy to report that a visit during the day is just...More

While dogs are not allowed on the upper level, they are allowed outdoors on the first level, both in the plaza and in the botanical garden. The Grotto holds special events throughout the year, including a Blessing of the Animals each July. Well-behaved leashed dogs are allowed.
