Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

For a four seater guided 2 hour dune buggy ride $579 plus $1600 deposit held for possible damages to the vehicle. Once in a lifetime for us - no experience driving a dune buggy and would not recommend for the inexperienced without a guide. Started with a safety video. Efficient check in and check out with lots of waiver signing. Only one of our possible three drivers felt comfortable driving and he LOVED it! Excellent guide. We got stuck once and caused another vehicle to slide into ours and she easily worked us out. Started with easier driving and moved up to harder terrain. Rode along the beach, up and down hilly dunes. Would have been hopelessly lost without a guide. There were four vehicles in our tour. Great scenery; regular breaks to get out and stretch or switch drivers. Pit toilets mid way. It was fun in an adrenaline-pumping, slightly terrifying way. Can use your phone to blast a customize playlist to energize your ride!

The Spinreel Team were consummate professionals and run a very customer friendly organization. They outfitted our group with high-end , clean new equipment in great working order and got our whole group well trained, helmeted up and belted in safely.
The location is great -- right off the 101-- easy access to the trails and beach. It was a spectacular day and a great outing for all of us-- adults and kids and in between.
It's a wonderful adventure on the Oregon Coast!

We were delighted with our experience renting ATVs at Spinreel for our family of four. The check-in process was fairly lengthy, but appropriate given the activity. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and they don't start the 'clock' on the rental until you leave their lot, so the length of the check-in didn't affect the time we got to spend on the dunes. The ATVs we used were not new, but they worked very well and we had no problems with them at all. I only wished we had known they had little storage compartments, as I would have brought water with me. (I got pretty thirsty after two hours on the dunes!)
The access to the dunes form Spinreel was really easy, and there was tons of space to explore. We ran out of time before we ran out of terrain... and we had the ATVs for two hours. The variety of the dunes was also fantastic from there. There were smaller, less-steep dunes for anyone feeling a bit more timid (my wife) and big, steep dunes for those of us who built up our confidence. But we felt perfectly safe the whole time.
I highly recommend that you book at least two hours so you have time to go to the beach as part of your adventure -- it was beautiful down there, and a great place to get used to the handling of the ATVs before diving into the steep, deep and soft sand of the dunes.
We'd definitely do this again if we found ourselves in Oregon again. And if we do, we'd definitely go to Spinreel again.

Extremely fun, we would go back and do it again! Driving along the beach with crashing waves as the tide was coming in was truly a breathtaking and beautiful experience. Climbing the dunes was and experience to be sure. The two seater side by side Polaris Razor was a blast to drive.

From top to bottom - Spinreel did an amazing job. First, their approach to safety was top-notch. Second, their equipment was in excellent shape and you could tell it was meticulously maintained. Third, the staff were very helpful, accommodating, and really nice to deal with. Lastly, it was SO. MUCH. FUN. Thank you Spinreel for making this one of the highlights of our vacation!!!

1st time on the dunes and it is a must do, never saw or experienced anything like it. We drove on the beach and up and over miles of huge sand dunes. The Razr ATV we rented is brand new and a blast. These guys run a great shop, all brand new ATV’s, totally professional and right across the street from the dunes and beach. If you are passing thru or in the area go do it and use these guys. I never drove one before but they showed us the basics, gave us a map and off we went. Fun time and great Razr ATVs!

We have been coming to Spinreel for the past thirty eight years, we first came down in 1986 for our honeymoon and rented Honda Odysseys. We've been back numerous times and have rented quad's and razors. This year we made it down on our anniversary and again had a blast. Can't wait to do it again!

This was a very memorable part of our trip down the Oregon coast. Spinreel's equipment, training, and check-in were excellent. We were very glad we chose the tour that included a guide. He really added a lot to the experience--and without him, I'm afraid we might still be out there trying to find our way back. This was a great adventure!!

Candice and Cage are such awesome guides. The follow-me tour was sure the way to go for us newbies. The dunes were a much larger area than we expected and we would have gotten lost on our own. Candice and Cage were so encouraging and personable. And Robert, thank you for your help in rescuing us when we weren't paying enough attention. Spinreel treated us so well, we highly recommend them. Two thumbs up for sure!

Hi, does your company organize multi-day adventure tours or do you know a tour company that does? I'm trying to organize a guys trip for 3 to 4 nights with a tour company that organizes accommodation, food, fun activities like ATV'ing, sandboarding, etc.

On the first week of July should I book a Dune Buggy from 9:30-11:30am or 3pm-5pm. Would there be any benefit for either one as far as the weather, traffic, etc.?

We will be there in August this year. I keep reading about the restrictions between March-Sept when the Snowy Plover is nesting. Are there non-restricted areas to drive buggies on the dunes in the Spinreel area during this time? Thanks for your info. Joe and Cat

This was my first time to the dunes, and it was February. Please call Rich or Justin, they are extremely helpful.

My son will be a week shy of having his driver's license when we visit. Are drivers with a permit allowed to drive the dune buggies if they have a licensed driver with them?
Written 10 April 2015
I drove a four-seater vehicle and was required to have a full drivers licence. My 10yo, however, was given a quad to ride on his own (under parental supervision, of course). I'm not certain that fully answers your question, but hope it helps.

We're planning to visit on July 5th with my wife and daughters aged 18 and 12 and son aged 15. We're trying to work out the best configuration. We'll have about 1.5 to 2 hours to visit.
So, is the tour just a guided trip on the dunes vs. doing it on your own? Or, do they take you to unique places and provide information about the area that you wouldn't get on your own? My wife's not so sure she interested in having some one just ride her around the dunes.
Are the number of people on the dunes at one time controlled at all? I'm a bit concerned about the danger of running into others or being hit by others if there is a large crowd. I realize July 4th weekend isn't the ideal time for the lowest crowds.
Do the quads have governors on them to limit speed?
Are there people on the dunes who bring their own vehicles?
Thanks!

You are on your own. No tours. It is a state park so there are other riders and it probably will be crowded, but it is a smaller dunes park so the weekenders will probably be at a larger park. The cc size of the quad limits the power so there are no governors. Riding along the beach is very fun. My kids had a blast. the scenery is beautiful.

My boyfriend and I are planning a trip there at the end of April and we are planning on coming there on Sunday, April 26th. Are you open on Sundays? And we would like to "carpool", haha, so would you recommend a quad or a side by side? And also, what kind of accommodations and restaurants are available near there? I would really appreciate your help !! Thank you so much.

If you have not been to oregon coast, Mo's restaurants are worth seeking out. Best clam chowder. Very casual. A quad will be more fun, more open air, no seatbelt. A side by side in enclosed and a little safer feeling, you are strapped in a 5 point harness. I drove the quad solo for the last 15 minutes and had a blast. You should really consider getting 2 quads. I am a 47 year old mom and really had fun.
