The town needs to catch up with the level of visitors with more stop lights instead of stop signs, difficult to find parking and minimal access to the beach. Would recommend another beach unless you can afford to stay in town and walk.
My very favorite place on the Oregon Coast. walking the beach at low tide is even more fun than when the tide is in, because you get to see the see life attached to and around the rocks. It's truly amazing
From start to finish, our trip to Cannon Beach was AWESOME! The weather was perfect, walking through downtown and through the shops was extremely relaxing. Cannon Beach is a peaceful, relaxing place. Our 5 mile walk in the am was God given and beautiful!
We went here on a Tuesday morning and there was still a bit of a crowd. We walked about a mile down the beach to get a shot of Haystack Rock.
After that we spent the rest of the time checking out the shops in...More
Cannon Beach is a beautiful, busy town on the Oregon coast. Lots of restaurants, shops and places to stay. Free parking in city lots. Very busy in summer. Some great hiking in state parks. Walking the beach and enjoying the view of Haystack Rock is...More

Oregon, along the coast, is a annual trip for us. Not knowing your start point (flying into Portland? driving from MO?) I used Seaside OR as a start point. From Seaside to Bandon, OR is only a 5 1/2 trip! So having 6-7 days should allow you lots of time to stop and visit locations along the way that interest you. Our favs are Seaside for a bicycle ride/walk along the beach and the "Prom" walkway (very interesting city worth visiting for the beach time/food/history but not my fav for extended stay). We stay at Cannon Beach only 1 night... (only 10 mins from Seaside) and enjoy late afternoon/evening/early morning walks to Haystack rock and local flare. July...Busy busy time so make sure you get reservations if you stay here! Also eat at off hours as the wait/lines are long during peak hours. Driftwood had best chowder! Make sure you stroll/drive the main street heading south to visit the local Hardware store (Screw & Brew) that has not only hardware but good lunches and cold beer! We stay at the Wave while there. Moving south on the highway you can visit Tillamook Cheese Factory...Pretty farm country and good cheese/ice cream. From Tillamook we get off Hwy 101 to (Sandlake Rd) Pacific City. Beautiful coastal road and quaint/very small city. If you stay on 101 you miss this hidden gem of a road trip! Next is Lincoln City (nice beach and busy), Depot Bay (whale watching IF right time of the year), Newport (go down to the SW Bay Blvd-exit to this road is at the north end of Yaquina Bay Bridge) for wharf atmosphere/food). Yaquina Lighthouse is in Newport, easy access to visit, as well as several other Lighthouses along the trip, Onto Florence..this is where the dune buggy rides are! After Florence onto Bandon (horse back riding, beautiful beach /rock form ations, quaint city center). Keep in mind we do this in about 6 days (which includes driving in 1 day back to Portland from Bandon!)so you can pick and choose locations to spend more time/stay overnight. You have to pull off the main Hwy to see some of the best sights but we always had enough time. Use the turnouts when you see long stretches of the ocean (before Florence is a spectacular view) as sometimes it's hard to see the ocean due to location of Hwy/trees/hills.Remember you could drive from Seaside to Bandon in 5 1/2 hrs so taking you time along the way is possible. Safe travels and have a wonderful time. BTY..I was born in KC, MO!
we have never owned a motorhome but Cannon Beach is an expensive area so I wouldn't count on free. you might have better luck in Seaside which is just a few miles north or try Manzanita, only a few miles to the south
