Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It is a place of ancient souls, of the creatures who dwell with the sweet sounds of moving water and bird song. Somehow this is more home than home, perhaps one day I'll learn why.

Stayed in a Cabin at Begley's Camp Grounds in New Straitsville with my son and a friend. The cabin was really nice and the camp ground staff is great. We rode ATV's for two days and had a great time. The town is ATV friendly. I actually rode an ATV into town and bought us a pizza then strapped it on the quad and brought it back to camp.

We live right around Wayne National Forest and visit often! We like to fish in the ponds and the lake. Sometimes the Game Warden can be an absolute ass, so make sure you have all your ducks in a row. I hate to give anyone a bad review, but he is NOT a nice man and has pretty much ruined people having a legitimately good time at the lake or any where with-in Wayne National Forest!

Spectacular riding roads with places to take hikes, eat great food and get away from it all. Check out the Windy 9 map of motorcycle routes.

ATV trails are gorgeous. Two downfalls--trail marking is not adequate and trails are two way but most parts are only wide enough for one machine. Ride with caution.

When I lived and worked there I did visit this forest many times from different angles and standpoints. The information center on old 33 was a friendly helpful and good place for me in my quest for information about events. One of the best preserved and best maintained national forests to be found. I did drive my car through parts of the forest. I did walk through other parts. Place for families and especially young children to visit. I did like seeing the old man's cave and asking questions about it. I was surprised to hear about the water fall. Students of so many parts the scientific disciplines should have a wonderful time there. Photography is awaiting you. My last visit there was many years ago before the range of calendar dates suitable for indicating the time of my visit were made available for completing this review. I gave different amounts of time to my visits through the park. I had easier access to parts of it on foot. Northern part was attractive to me in large part because it was the first part that came to my attention many years ago when I first found about its location - an extensive spread of trees made it wonderful. Look at the map to see where it can be found. This park is not a secret now as many people know about it. That is good.

Driving by without an imminent deadline, I just had to pull over and go for a walk. This is some beautiful forest land with over 300 miles of trails in the whole forest (but it is divided into three areas). The ranger station is very nice and the folks there are super helpful in planning routes.

Many reconditioned rail cars. Take a camera. You can walk around the railroad cars and take pictures.

We rode through the park as part of our bike trip from Nelsonville to Athens. A great and scenic trip that showcased the forest, park, streamed and of coarse the paved bike path. This 40 mile round trip was one of the top rides in the state!!

This forest is much spread out over southern Ohio and offers many adventures as it is a large patch of land. Highways just find their way through the forest and surprise people. Hiking alone is not advisable so go with somebody you know and trust and who is a source of motivation and assistance if you need help. Long sleeve shirts or outdoors wardrobe is essential. This is not a summer time picnic in the park. Bring an extra pair heavy socks and wear a hat with a brim. Check weather before going out as you do not want to hike in the rain. Tell somebody where you will be and leave a map or a description of your proposed voyage with approximate time tables. Communication with cell phones is essential. If you are a person who collects samples of dirt or leaves or tree branches for school then bring a case for carrying it. But do not become a person carrying three suitcases. You must be able to move on your feet quickly with agility. Bring a small lunch and something to drink like a canteen full of cold water. Bring a notepad if you are inclined to write about what you see. Photographs are necessary in these situations. Gloves and protective covering for your hands. Shoes that are comfortable and sturdy. I do not know about insect repellent. You might need it depending on the time of your voyage. Towels and medical things to treat cuts or bruises in a carrying case. Personal medical needs will tell you what else to carry with you. Do not walk for longer than your body will allow you to hike. Do not hike if you are injured. Wait and rest.Three or more caves should be seen but so much of the landscape is forest. The Wayne National Forest office which I visited is located on route 33 on the north side on the way to Athens out of Nelsonville. Visit it and ask questions and collect maps. Much information is there to educate you about the foliage and fauna and the forest landscape in general so ask questions and collect reading material. Read it. Know where you are going and make a good mental map for your planning. Share your ideas with your hiking partner. Trails have a level of difficulty assigned to them. Know what it means. Talk with many experienced hikers. Ask for advice and guidance. For me four hours of rigorous hiking is what I can do without a rest. Climbing hills is different. Markers indicating that you need help might be a good thing to take with you. Good luck.
