Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I havent actually visited Amish Country because its where I live.
I have lived in this area for almost 50 years alongside the Amish families. The sect of Amish who live in Hardin County are definitely more primitive than the ones you may visit in eastern Ohio and in Pennsylvania. They use no modern conveniences at all and the establishments you will visit are primitive and usually a part of their home. It is interesting and unique.
I would suggest making a stop first at the Hardin County Chamber and Alliance building 225 S Detroit Street, Kenton Ohio. (419 673 4131)
They have maps of the area which will help you find your way around.
Most of the Hardin County Amish sell products from their homes like baked goods, fresh eggs, quilts, woven rugs, furniture, maple syrup, and of course produce, flowers, mums, and shrubs in season. There is a produce auction on CR 200 on Tuesdays and Fridays where you can buy BULK items for canning and also flowers and shrubs during the summer and fall season. Do a little research first. You may have to drive around a bit but Amish homesteads will have signs out to guide you as to what they have available. And the scenery is enjoyable.
No Sunday Sales whatsoever, this is a hard fast rule among the old order Amish.

Most people think eastern Ohio when they think of Amish country. There is a large Amish community around Kenton in central Ohio in Hardin County as well. As you drive on one of the highways south and east of town, you will notice farms with clotheslines instead of power lines. The area is not as commercialized as other areas, but many houses have roadside stands or hand lettered signs selling eggs, baskets, or quilts but with no Sunday sales. The local chamber of commerce has a map and a driving guide available, If you only have a short time and want to see some of the Amish area on your own, follow the signs off Highway 309 south to Pfieffer Station and then loop back to 309.

My 9 and 10 year old, and I, love visiting this Amish area. They live a lifestyle my kids and I wish we did. Simple, not materialistic, natural, community. Goods are very reasonably priced and often change per the seasons. Drive carefully and respect their ways. They are so much wiser than most of us. If all electricity was lost for over a month they would manage just fine....while most of us would be miserable.

Took my car for a quite drive. The corn fields and bean fields were full of crops. Local Amish had eggs, vegetables and poultry for sale along the way. Take your time and enjoy the scenery. Watch for horse and buggies along the road.

Beautiful countryside drive. You won't find tourist shops or trendy places to stop. There are a few roadside stands where you can buy produce or baked goods from the Amish. They are growing and buying much of the land in southern Hardin and northern Logan counties.

I didn't know what to expect at first but I'm glad I chose to explore Hardin rather than Holmes County, because it is much less touristy and you mostly see acres of fields, and get to see the old style Amish life.

I have purchased a log home built by our talented Amish community just east of Kenton, on 309. The head of the manufacturer is Ora Bantrager. They are so friendly, talented and the craftsmanship is far more than anyone else building the exact same thing! They are truly amazing! Give them a visit. They will not be there on Sundays.
