Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We saw the signs as we headed up to Russell Falls. I said to Bob, if we don't see platypuses let's stop here on the way back... The Falls and walks are excellent but we saw the back half of a platypus disappearing only. So we stopped here! It's wonderful!! We saw two platypuses - spent half an hour watching their relaxed way of life. The place has been beautifully set up with x careful combination of information and fun. Would thoroughly recommend it for all nature lovers.

Thanks for reviewing us Linda M. We think our forest sensory trail makes a good complement to the Mt Field waterfall walks, and we're glad you agree.

We made a trip out here after visiting Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, and it rounds out a good day for the kids. I wanted to see a platypus in the wild and wasn't disappointed. The kids loved the 'Bush-Tucker Trail' which is a lovely walk through the local bush with an interactive tucker-box that relates to the local flora you find along the way.

Worth the drive from Hobart.

Same as Russell falls, magic! The weather was was wet, but don’t worry, the forest canopy protects you from the rain. Take the return track to the car park, keep an eye out for the platypus!

This is an interesting activity and if you are luck enough to see the platypus even better. $15 per person seems a little high but everything in Australia is high compared to the US. We did learn some interesting facts. We wish there was a bench available to patiently wait for the platypus. I think younger kids would enjoy this but we were all adults and primarily interested on seeing a platypus in its natural habitat.

Probably the most amazing place in Tasmania! You can really feel the love David and Tony put in this place! The chance to see the Platypus is about 70%!!! Also included in entry fee is a Tucker box with food related to interesting stories / objects on the trail along the lake/river.

We stumbled across this place because of a message at the information kiosk in Hobart. We came along to see a platypus and when we arrived the guy running it ( Tony I think) explained that there was a chance to see the platypus but the real thing about the site was the bush tucker trail. It is a well thought out track which uses all your sense to help you remember the information.
The bonus for us was that when we back to the pond, Tony was there saying that the platypus was swimming around. After about 5 minutes a mother and baby platypus appeared swimming around. We stayed watching for about half an hour.
It does take about an hour to get to from Hobart but it is well worth the visit. The chances of seeing a platypus seems to be good but the tucker trail is worth the visit alone!

The destination is a mini nature theme park showing various Aussie flora and fauna in inc practical applications i.e. things that can be made from the, along with yummy snax based on the plant in question. The park is located in treed land set next to a pretty river location. It also features a resident platypus splashing about in the river which we were fortunate enough to spot on our trip. The trip takes just over an hour from CBD Hobart & offer attractive scenery along the way eg rivers, iold railways, apple orchards berry farms, hops growing etc

A wonderful and unexpected find. An attraction that leaves you feeling happy and enchanted.
The kids loved it. They were given a quiz and snack box to taste different bush tucker flavours on the way. The bonus was the wild platypus feeding in the river. The owner was informative and welcoming and very knowledgable of the area.
This is exactly the kind of attraction that kids and adults remember and I urge you to stop. A definite highlight from a 2 week tassie holiday and on our must do list for future Hobart visitors.

We stopped with our young children and were welcomed by the host. We then moved onto the viewing area and were lucky enough to see a platypus several times. From there we followed the trail with our Forest Flavours tucker-box.

The river is breathtaking in its beauty and the trail an easy short walk suitable for eldery and children. It is also very informative with short notes on different flora and fauna.

All in all a great spot to stop and spend time in a family friendly environment with a great host
