Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A very pretty spot at the end of the road (and at the top of the Park) from which a number of excellent walks commence. We did the shorter Pandani Circuit which basically circumnavigates the lake and it was very pleasant.

There is also a high country Tairn Circuit which is an all-day hike : hopefully, one day.

A very pretty drive up to the Lake with a number of viewpoints and points of interest along the way. A good excursion whilst visiting the park.

What a vast contrast this area is when compared with the temperate rainforests of the 3 Falls Circuit at the bottom of the mountain. The vegetation had completely changed to hardy alpine plants strewn amongst glacial rocks covered in multi-covered lichen.

Be prepared for 16km of narrow, winding, gravel road to reach the lake. Not much room for passing oncoming vehicles so take it steady.

At the summit we only had time for one walk - Pandani Grove Walk. It was an easy, short walk that followed the perimeter of the lake.

Thoroughly enjoyed a walk around Lake Dobson. The vegetation was amazing including Tasmanian waratahs, native grasses and trees.

Located about 16km from the visitors centre it is well worth the journey on the gravel road.
We walked around the through the panini grove which is quite beautiful.
Weather is changeable and we started the walk in sunshine and finished in a light flurry of snow. Moderate walk, with lovely views of the lake and Eagle Tarn.

Only a small proportion of visitors to the park bother to drive up to Lake Dobson, possibly because it is an unsealed and winding mountain road. There is a good sized carpark at Lake Dobson and there is a short walk along the edge of the lake leading to a pandanus grove. Lovely alpine scenery. There are longer walks from here as well.

Lake Dobson is accessed by a 17km gravel road but the road is in good condition. The walk around the Lake called Pandanni Grove is lovely along the edge of the Lake. Coming out on a service road, return back along the same walk rather than along the service road.

Drive up 16km to Lake Dobson. Dirt road, narrow in many places. Good information spots on the way. Large car park at the end. We walked round the lake it was a sunny day but still wore my fleece! Easy walk about 30 minutes.

We walked around Lake Dobson in amongst beautiful bushes and snow left over from the recent snowfall. It was so beautiful. An easy walk with so much to take in. We made a snowman at the huts just down from Lake Dobson.

Unfortunately it was too cold wet and very windy so we didn't get out of the car to do any of the walks but it is obviously popular by the cars in the park.
An interesting narrow gravel road with changing vegetation and remnants of old wooden safety guard posts.

Took us a 1.5 hour drive from Hobart to Visitor Center at the Russell Falls. And another 20-30 minutes drive (around 16km) up to Lake Dobson's car park. All it takes is a good driver, slower speed and keen eyes.

Driving up to the unsealed road, one must pay extra caution to the oncoming traffic, road conditions and wildlife crossings (the park has one of the most endangered animals staying up there). ONE THING FOR SURE: Enjoy your ride too :)

Bring extra warm clothing as the weather is extremely cold. Plus the wind, the temperature will plunge close to freezing point.

When you reach the lake, enjoy the scenery, and if you're lucky, you maybe visited by the animals (2 kangaroos were there when we arrived). Cool eh? 😎 They just didn't make us some hot tea, but that's fine!!
