We had to take the opportunity to see Dunkery Beacon and what a sight, a moderate climb even for us both at 62 was well worth it, a clear bright sunny day gave incredible views. Well worth

It was surprisingly quiet when we visited (around 2pm on a clear, sunny day). We deliberately waited to walk until the afternoon as it was cloudy in the morning and we were so pleased we did as the views were amazing. The car park was small but sufficient and there were a number of different routes we could take up to the top. Would recommend sturdy footwear.

We were fortunate to arrive reasonably early in the morning and had the hill completely to ourselves. Just the sound of the wind and birdsong. We were also fortunate with the weather and had almost complete 360 degree views, with some low clouds rolling up one of the valleys. Parking in one of the nearby car parking areas we took the shorter, steeper route to the top. Just to give ourselves a little more exercise, we also went down and back up the longer, less steep path and then returned via the steeper route to the car. You can, therefore, choose the car parking place according to how steep you want your walk to be! The paths are rough stones but fairly wide. Decent footwear is advisable. Even though it is a short walk, do watch the weather and have suitable clothing available. Take usual precautions with car parking, ie don't leave valuables.

Hard work for a couple of 57 to 70 year old but we'll worth it for the views. Exhilarating !! A real natural heritage treasure.

Stunning views. Unusually popular with people converging at the beacon from all directions.

Included the beacon on a long Exmoor hike. Was planning a mountain bike route but the ground was too icy and snowy.

Beautiful scenery and views and a great walk, well worth it. There is a car park near by so you have a lovely walk up the tor, lots of wildlife about.

Sandra at the bed and breakfast suggested this walk. It was beautiful. A bit misty when we set off but soon the sun came out. We were so lucky. The view from the Beacon was amazing in both directions and the walk through the countryside and woods was lovely.

We went here wice-one as a result of faulty navigation - and were glad we did. The first was on a right sunny day with 360 degree view over vast distances which really put a spring in your step. The second was on a misty mizzly day with less distant views and a sombre brooding atmosphere. You can get most of the way by car and the final walk to the top is not difficult if you are properly shod.

Included the beacon in one of my bike rides. Although windy and slightly chilly the views were fantastic.

A good circular walk from Webber’s post car park. All uphill for the two miles to the top, a lovely steady walk back down and a steep climb out of the valley back to the car park. Total distance of 6.7 miles.
Route followed from OS circular walks in Exmoor book.
