Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Fascinating history in this ancient family home, will need to do some more research. The volunteer guides were a font of knowledge and very friendly and helpful.
I was only there for 1.5 hours until closing so didn't have time to walk in the gardens, but will return.
No refreshment on site when I visited.
Limited opening hours, so go as soon as it opens in the afternoon.

Parts of the house date back to the medieval times. The property has been passed down through the family since the 1700’s.

Guides knowledgeable and friendly.

It doesn’t take long exploring the house, unless you want to hear or read about everything. It was a pleasure seeing how much care has been maintaining the property and furnishings.

A large garden at the rear of the house, though mainly up steps and incline. We enjoyed our visit and glad we were in the area when open to the public.

This is an amazing National Trust property, the one with the most magical atmosphere I know. The terraced gardens are breathtaking, offering vast views over western Somerset. (The M5 motorway ¼ mile away is tastefully hidden by mature trees which also muffle the sound of the traffic.) The house, still a family home, is a fascinating mix of styles from across the centuries, and manages to charm and intrigue while not losing the sense of intimacy and living history. The cafe service (though limited in range, as another reviewer says), was delightful and personal. No NT property stays in my memory so strongly, and I long to visit again! (Our visit was in 2019 but the drop-down doesn't allow me to select a date before August 2022.)

From the outside Clevedon looks like a lovely country manor - that's about the only good thing I can say about it. As previous reviewers have stated, you have to wait outside for the door to be opened for you, luckily for us the weather was decent on the day of our visit. You are limited to just a few of the rooms in the house where there is a volunteer who if you're lucky, will give you a bit of the history mixed with a fair bit of sarcasm. I have to admit that there are some interesting artifacts to look at and if you're deemed worthy enough - one of the guides will tell you about it. We couldn't visit the garden during our visit due to some renovations being carried out.

Staff - Very snobbish and a times quite rude. One particular "gentleman" who was in the room with the glass artwork was very rude with my mother because she stated that some of the work wasn't to her taste. The only guide who was pleasant was the lady in the what I believe was the kitchen, now a room displaying some ceramic works etc.

Will I visit again? Absolutely not! I've never felt so unwelcome at an NT property and I don't want to hear my mothers taste in glassware being ridiculed by some pretentious guide.

Came to see this imposing looking old English country house. Came on a perfect spring day so was thinking, why wouldn't this be a perfect visit! Well, this place is so poorly run - you are better off saving your money and running the other way!

Staff (except one person) were rude, unprofessional and unwelcoming from start ot finish. No greeting, no instruction that you are either to wait or enter. Person giving the tickets says "go right in" then the sign at the door says "we open the door every five minutes" but then you look in after 10 minutes to see why they aren't opening the door and they get snooty. Awful, rude, staff. No training given here. No one knows how to enter the building and no help given when inside. The house is still occupied and only a few rooms inside are open. There is an interesting glass and pottery collection but 87% of the staff would rather just stare at you and wish you were gone. Why do these people bother to volunteer if they don't give a toss about the visitors. Visitors drive a long distance, pay good money, and as other reviews say on here are left standing outside no matter what their disability or the weather.

Appalling. Thankfully most other NT places are not like this. Best thing to do if you want to see it is drive up the driveway, look at the front and back of the building then leave immediately! The family just gave the house to the NT to ease their bills. No one cares about visitors having a nice time. There are many other more important and historically significant buildings in Britain that deserve the money and care. If the NT wants to open this building to the public they are better off having one person to collect the money and handing out audio tours. Much more peaceful and easier to see the tiny amount of rooms open.

This place is a complete disappointment. You are better off saving your money and going to the relatively nearby Avebury, Dyrham Park, Newark Park and definitely Tyntesfield - all four of those NT properties are utterly amazing and the staff are nice and they have procedures in place so that you can enjoy your visit. One of the guides said that Clevedon has 14 bedrooms but only 2 are on view to the public. I think that kind of thing sums it all up what is going on here!

This is a real gem of a place with wonderful grounds just outside of Bristol. You could spend hours there in the summer and a visit makes a great afternoon of relaxation. The architecture is wonderful and all the NT staff are superb.

This is one of the smallest N.T. properties, it is one of their oldest and has lots to offer.
The gardens are a gem, well worth a visit

Visited here today with my mother. What a stunning place with knowledgeable .friendly people. Enjoyed the history and stunning gardens. Loved seeing lots of bees and dragon flies. Would highly recommend a visit . Easy to find but be mindful it’s open 2-5pm or pop into Clevedon front for a cuppa and a look at the lake / sea/pier as we did first .

Clevedon Court is not a huge property, so access is timed to keep the congestion down. Not all the house is open as part is still used by the Elton family. (Good wheeze - give the house to the Trust, pay a nominal rent to stay on, and get the expensive maintenance paid for!) The parts that are open are lovely. As with all houses of this age I always want to go up the narrow tower stairs that are closed off for safety. The car park is not large so maybe avoid the weekend if you can. It's only open Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday anyway. The traditional NT cafe is missing, but there is a hut (Tea in cardboard - yuck). The much vaunted terraced garden is not a plantsmans garden

Since becoming National Trust members we have failed miserably to get to this (relatively) close NT property; a mere 23 miles away from our home. Today we thought we were going to fail again, because of a road accident blocking our way. A car was upside-down in the middle of Tickenham Road, only 100yds from the entrance to Clevedon Court.

If had probably happened 5 minutes before we arrived at the scene, and there was already a substantial traffic queue, with vehicles doing U-turns. So, we tried going back up the M5 northwards to the Portbury turning, to come back on the Tickenham Road from an easterly direction. Sadly however we didn’t take the right route and ended up back in exactly the same place about 25 minutes later. Happily by then vehicles were moving: as the Police had arrived and were managing traffic through the accident scene. As an upshot of this we arrived about 30 minutes later than planned.

Clevedon Court has limited opening times on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays plus most bank holidays in the spring and summer.

The modest carpark is located in some woodland to the east of the house; you drive through the centre of the cluster of buildings adjacent to the house in which to get to it. The carpark was almost full, but we were able to find a space, and went straight to check in, in the old pottery (used by Sir Edmund Elton in a family business started in the late 19th century). We were given some information and two passes to the house.

We decided to go straight into the house, and we were let in after a short wait. The house felt like a home; it’s not often you get that vibe when visiting such old houses that are now owned by the NT. The house is, as we had sensed, a functioning home to the Elton family, but no one was resident when we visited.

The Manor House is not huge but is generous having been built in the 14th century, but substantially added-to in the 16th and 18th centuries. We particularly liked the Great Hall and the first floor chapel with it’s stained glass windows. Also the Glass Museum with its collection Nailsea Glass and Elton Ware with it’s Crackle-glaze, and the use of precious metals.

We took a wander around the gardens behind and to the north of the house. The landscape is dominated by a hill that rises steeply, which has been exploited by the construction of several terraces.

It was good visit in good weather, and the helpful and knowledgeable staff made our visit so much better.
